Mr. Brown worked at a train station. One day, he was alone on his way home from work. It was windy that night. Then, he heard someone behind him. He began to run, and the man was always following him. He was really afraid.

There was a wall on one side of the road, and Mr. Brown quickly climbed up it and jumped over it. The man climbed up the wall and jumped down, too. Mr. Brown shouted, "What do you want? Why are you following me all the time?"

The man was so tired. "I didn't know that you are a very good runner," he said at last. "I have to go to Mr. White's house, but I don't know the way. A man at the station told me that you live next to Mr. White and he told me to follow you."

Mr. Smith was in trouble those days. He drove a car for Mr. Black, a rich business -man, He worked hard and the boss liked him. But he couldn't work when he drank too much. And once he almost fell into the river when he drove along the bridge. Mr. Black became angry and was going to send him away. Mr. Smith had a big family to raise and was afraid of losing his job. So he promised that he would stop drinking at once. The man told him to wait to be dealt with（处理）.

One Monday morning Mr. Smith came into the office with two badly burned ears.

"What happened to your ears ?"asked Mr. Black.

"Well,"said the man."I was watching a football match on TV yesterday while my wife was ironing（熨） clothes. She had put the iron near the telephone before she went to cook supper. Our team lost the game and I felt sorry for it. As soon as I went into the sitting room, the phone rang and I answered the iron!"

"And what happened to the other car?"

"When I put the iron down on the table, the telephone rang again!"

①Zhang Guimei is the headmaster of Lijiang Huaping High School, which lies in Yunnan Province and was set up for girls. She has been granted the title "Role Models of the Times" because of her contribution to the education for girls from poor families. In 2020, most students in this high school went to universities. This will never have happened without Zhang.

②In 2001, she found that many girls living in the mountain had little education. She wanted to build a free school for them. Between 2003 and 2007, she tried to raise money for the school. However, the money she raised was far from enough to build a school. In 2007, she went to 17th CPC National Congress（中国共产党代表大会）. At the Congress, her story was reported. People across the country knew what she did and her dream to start a free school for girls. With the help of the government, the school was founded in 2008．

③Zhang is very strict with her students. At 5:20A．m., she wakes the students up. They have only 10 minutes to finish lunch. They are allowed to spend three hours a week outside the school. During the past years, over 1600 girls from the school got higher education. "It is my greatest happiness to change at least one generation through education"， Zhang said.

In China the Spring Festival is the biggestfestival. It is also called Chinese new year. It's the holiday during the whole year. Everyone looks forward this holiday. No matter where they are andbusy they are, the Chinese people go back to their hometown for family's reunions（团圆）.

 the festival, they will clean their house and buy a lot of food for the festival. On the Spring Festival Eve, every familytogether and has a big dinner. After that, they usually stay up late. They watch TV and talk  with delicious food until the new year comes.

In the past, the Spring Festival meant theof a new year. And ancient Chinese thought the Spring Festival could bring good luck, happiness, health and other good  to them. This is a really good tradition for Chinese. So Chinese, we should carry on（继承） this tradition and celebrate this holiday with our family.
