Most Beautiful National Parks in Poland

Poland's national parks are a hidden treasure for nature lovers. Take a walk on the wild side with us and experience four of the best open air spaces.

    Bieszczady National Park

This park is in the remote south-eastern corner of the country bordering with Ukraine and Slovakia. It's a great choice for people looking for a quiet and lonely trip. Facilities are also quite limited. Don't miss the Solina Dam and other artificial lakes.

    Karkonosze National Park

Over in the south-west of Poland by the frontier with the Czech Republic, this park is particularly interesting for its strangely shaped rocks and flat bare mountain tops. Near the border of the park is the highest waterfall in the Sudety region of Poland, the Kamienczyk Waterfall, which is 27 meters high.

    Wolin National Park

Covering a large part of the Wolin Island on the western side of the Polish coast, this park's best parts include an amazing 15 km long stretch of steep sea cliffs (悬崖), lakes and rivers surrounded by pine trees, many bird species and a small bison (野牛) reserve.

    Pieniny National Park

This park is on the border of Poland and Pieniny—one of the Pieniny's most beautiful mountain ranges. By far the most popular activity is taking a raft (筏) down the winding Dunajec River, but there is a lot more to discover.

My first visit to London was one and a half years ago. It was a wonderful trip. I stayed in the city for three weeks, and I had many impressions. I visited all the famous places. I'd like to tell you about some of the places I visited in this beautiful city.

First, I went to the Tower of London, and I want to say that it is a very interesting historical place. I found out that a long time ago, it was a prison. Later it became a castle for the royal(皇家的) family. Or maybe it is the reverse; I'm not sure, but later they left this place and lived in Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace.

I also enjoyed visiting the House of Parliament and Westminster Abbey, two very popular places for tourists. They are very old and beautiful. The Abbey is built in a kind of Gothic style; it is fantastic.

In London, you can also enjoy nature. There are many parks such as Hyde Park, Green Park, and Holland Park. These parks are wonderful green, quiet places where you can relax and escape the noise of the city.

Trafalgar Square is a popular place for students and other young people. You will find lots of pigeons (鸽子) there. If you have time, you can feed them and they will be very happy. You can buy special food for them, but be careful! Tons of birds are going to surround you if you feed them.

Another very special place in London that I like is St. Paul's Cathedral which was designed by Sir Christopher Wren. I also was impressed with the museums in London. They're very popular. I found them interesting because you can learn about the history of England.

I had a wonderful time in London. I really liked it because it is a city that is rich in history.

(1)、The writer writes this passage to____.
A、recall his/her first travel to London B、tell us he/she has visited many places. C、introduce a famous city to the readers. D、show the readers around London
(2)、In order to avoid the noise of the city, you would like to travel to ____.
A、Buckingham Palace B、Holland park C、The Tower of London D、Westminster Abbey

Scientists may have found a way to reduce shortage of type O blood.Type O is the kind of blood that hospitals most often need.What the researchers are testing is an easier way to make type O blood out of other kinds of blood.

There are four main kinds of blood.Most people born with one of these four: Type A, Type B, Type AB or Type O. Type O can be safely given to anyone.So it is commonly used when a person is injured or sick and has to have blood.

Type O is the most common blood group. But the supplies of it available in hospitals and blood banks are usually limited. This is because of the high demand for it.Type O blood is used in emergencies when there is no time to identify the patient's blood type.

Giving A, B or AB to someone with a different blood type, including O, can cause a bad reaction by the person's defense system.Their immune system can reject the blood. This immune reaction can be deadly.

The differences among blood types are linked to whether or not red blood cells contain certain kinds of sugar molecules (分子).These molecules are found on the surface of the cells.They are known as antigens (抗原).These antigens are found with type A, B and AB blood but not with type O.

More than twentyfive years ago, scientists found that the antigens could be removed to create what they called universaltype cells.They could be removed with chemicals called enzymes (酶).But large amounts of enzymes were required to make the change.

Doctor Henrik Clausen of the University of Copenhagen in Denmark led the study.The next step, he says, is to complete safety tests.The team is working with the American company ZymeQuest to test the new method.If it meets safety requirements and is not too costly, it could become a widely used lifesaving tool to increase the supply of universal blood.

(1)、How do scientists deal with the problem of lacking type O blood?
A、Hope more people to donate type O blood. B、Make the most of the present type O blood. C、Develop new ways of using type O blood. D、Make type O blood out of other kinds of blood.
(2)、What make people have different kinds of blood?
A、Sugar molecules in red blood cells. B、People's different living conditions. C、People's various immune systems. D、The variety of people's cells and genes.
(3)、What can we infer from the passage?
A、Type O blood can be safely given to anyone. B、Antigens could easily be removed to create universal blood. C、A Danish company wanted to involve itself in studying blood. D、The new method is not safe enough to be put into use in hospitals now.
(4)、What is the best title for the passage?
A、Four Different Kinds of Blood B、A New Way to Make Type O Blood C、The Latest Research on Blood Type D、Find the Proper Type of Blood

Four years ago my sweet mom went to be with her Lord (God). She did it her way.

I got the call at work, and I headed home quickly. Mom and Dad lived on a small farm that they had owned since I was seven. I hated going there every weekend. There was nothing for a young girl to do but watch the one station on the old TV set, if the weather allowed reception.

My mom, on the other hand, loved the peace and quiet of the land and loved to work in the garden among her flowers and vegetables. The place was simple, with no indoor heat. We had a big wood stove in the kitchen that did its best to heat the little farmhouse, but it always seemed cold and too quiet to me.

In the evenings, my mom and I would sit for hours singing in the little kitchen. I sang the melody and Mom harmonized (用和声唱). Her favorite song was "Moon River" and we sang it over and over. Mom told me stories next to the radio and there was one song I particularly loved called "Ivory Tower".

As time passed, I had my own children and went to visit the farm every week or two. The kids loved the farm and the tractor rides with my dad. Me, well, I still hated the silence of the farm. While my mom loved to sit at her kitchen table and look out at her garden and flowers and retell all the old stories, I missed the hustle and bustle (喧闹) of my life at home. But I sat there listening quietly as she reminisced.

Now, I sat back in the silence and the silence was deafening so I finally leaned over to turn on an old radio. Music always comforted me.

My heart skipped a beat. "Moon River" was playing on the radio. I sat there with a tear running down my cheek, as I listened to every familiar note.

(1)、From the first paragraph, we know that the writer's mother ____.
A、left the small farm with Lord B、passed away four years ago C、left for Lord to live her own way D、preferred to be with Lord
(2)、The underlined word reminisced in the fifth paragraph probably means ____.
    A、shouted B、comforted C、recalled D、sighed
(3)、The writer didn't like staying in the farm for the following reasons except that ____.
A、she could only sing one song in the small farm B、it was too cold and quiet C、there was nothing more that could make her excited D、the place was simple, with no indoor heat
(4)、Which of the following would be the best title for this passage?
A、Cherish(珍惜) life B、My happy childhood C、Our small farmhouse D、Mom's music
