In the 1994 film Forres t Gump, there's a famous saying, "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never how what you're gonna get. "The surprise is part of the fun. Now blind box toys are bringing the magic of surprise to online shopping.

A blind box toy is hidden inside similar boxes but invisible from the outside. You don't know what will be inside, although the toys typically come from pop culture, ranging from movies to comics and cartoons(动漫).

Blind boxes have become popular since they were first introduced from Japan to China in 2014. According to a 2019 Tmall report, the mini-series of Labubu blind box, designed by Hong Kong-born Kasing Lung, was named Champion of Unit Sales with 55, 000 sold in just 9 seconds during the Singles Day shopping event. Most customers for blind boxes are young people aged 18 to 35.

According to The Paper, blind box toys are popular in part because of their cute looks. The typically cute cartoon figures come in very small sizes, making them suitable for display almost anywhere. Even if blind boxes are not their top choice for decorations, the mystery and uncertainty of the process also attracts people . It's the main reason why people buy blind boxes one after another.

"Expecting the unknown is always a part of the box-opening process(过程), "said Miss Cao, 24, who lives and works in Shenyang, speaking to Sina News. She said:"Until you open all the boxes, you cannot know what it is inside. "

Opening a blind box is a happy little surprise for our boring daily lives, something small but fun to wait for each day, week or month. When people open this simple little box, they may be disappointed, but the uncertainty is part of the fun. People will open more blind boxes and hope for a better result. We still don't understand the influence of the mind's power over the body, no r do we understand why there should be such power. All we can say for certain is that the mind does have power over the body in very many different ways.

If a man is told that he is at the North Pole and he believes what he is told, he'll show physical signs which suggest that his body is reacting as though he were at the North Pole. He'll go pale and shiver with cold. When the film Lawrence of Arabia was shown, cinema managers around the world reported that the sales of ice cream rocketed. The endless desert scenes had made the moviegoers feel uncomfortably hot.

Hypnotists(催眠师) use the power of the mind over the body in order to use their influence. The hypnotist must only make the patient believe that something is true, and the patient will act accordingly. For example, if he convinces the patient that his arms are as heavy as lead(铅), then the patient will be unable to li ft his arms; if he convinces the patient that a piece of ice is a hot iron and he then touches the patient's skin with the ice, a blister(水泡) will develop. The body will react to the suggestion and not to the reality, and signs of a real burn will appear.

(1)、What would people probably want when watching a film about the North Pole?
A、An ice cream. B、A cold shower. C、A hot drink. D、A hot iron.
(2)、What may a hypnotist be able to control?
    A、Patients'bodies. B、People's minds. C、Patients'diseases. D、People's movements.
(3)、What does the underlined phrase "the reality"refer to?
A、A real burn. B、A hot iron. C、The touch of ice. D、The body's reaction.
(4)、What may be the best title for this passage?
A、Mind and Body B、Physical Signs C、Research on Mind. D、The Power of the Mind

四、第二部分 阅读,第二节任务型阅读(共5 小题; 每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分)

If you hope to improve your health, exercise is obviously a good way. But do you know that it has great effects on the mind too? We often pay little attention to the great mental(精神的) benefits that exercising regularly can have. It will allow you to stay active and health y for a long time, allowing you to have both the physical and mental benefits.

Improve your mood Exercise is just what you need if you're looking for some positive feelings. It is possible that you have experienced a happy time after exercise While you are exercising, "happiness hormones(荷尔蒙)"are released.

Reduce stress. If you're feeling stressed, this feeling will disappear after exercise Because it helps reduce the level of the"stress hormone"which leaves you feeling tired and stressed.

If you take regular exercise, you'll find the results last longer too. So over time, you'll have a higher ability to stay focused while completing tasks if you exercise regularly.

Improve your memory. According to a study by the University of British Columbia, regular exercise increases the size of the hippocampus(a part of the brain)

So, it is clear to see that there are many different benefits regular exercise can have. With these benefits for the mind, there now shouldn't be any excuse not to start and lead an active, balanced life.

    A. Increase your focus.

    B. Increase your sense of self-worth.

    C. Regular exercise keeps your mind calm.

    D. They fill you with positive and happy feelings.

  • 19.  第二节 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

One day my grandfather gave me a gift——a piggy bank. It had an opening through which one could put money in, but the opening was not big enough to reach in and get the money out. The only way to get at the money was to break the piggy bank open. My grandfather explained that was the whole idea:the piggy bank would help save my money so that, at the end of the year, I might have enough for that bike I dreamt about. He asked if I would put some of the money he gave me into the piggy bank. I agreed immediately and promised that I wouldn't break it open until I could afford my dream bike.

Whenever he gave me a little bit of money, he would say, "This is for spending. But you can save some and put it in the piggy bank if you want to save it up. "When he gave me larger amounts, it was clearly for saving in the piggy bank. For some time, this worked fine. I loved shaking the piggy bank and hearing the sound of the coins. As it became heavier, I grew more excited, dreaming about buying my new bike, and all the adventures I could have on it.

Whenever I wanted to take some money from the piggy bank to buy delicious ice-creams or beautiful pens, I would imagine riding my bike on the street, and thinking of that, my thoughts about ice-creams or pens went away. So for almost six months, I only put money into the piggy bank without taking any out. I thought I wouldn't break my piggy bank for anything. But one day something unexpected happened. I saw a piece of news on the television that a serious earthquake(地震) had happened in a nearby province. As many houses were destroyed, a lot of children became homeless. Seeing their shabby clothes and crying faces, I was sleepless that night.

    注意:续写词数应为 80个左右;

I knew I should do something

He continued, "My dear grandson, you deserve that bicycle. As a bonus, let's buy that bike together now. ""Thank you, Grandpa. "I was overwhelmed with happiness.
