From learning about protecting wild animals and natural habitats to reading about the effects of recycling, books are perfect for showing people how to get involved. Here are four of such books.

    Tall Trees

We greet people we know and people we don't know. Doctor Aka stopped and gave greetings to the men sitting along the way. Ayah and I came to a little store to buy bread and candies. It wouldn't do, to arrive at the joy empty-handed.

It's the end of my 7-month stay in an Uzbek village teaching English and I was walking down the dirt roads with my host parents — Doctor Aka and Nurse Ayah. We drew close to a relative's house, Shakhnoza Sister's, whose children we love. "Let's see the baby. We can't just go by without seeing the little Kyrgyz (吉尔吉斯人)," laughed the Doctor. It's his personal joke to call the lovely baby a Kyrgyz.

We then continued our joy. There are endless occasions to throw party in this village. Birthdays, weddings, buying a car, a holiday — all call for throwing a party. The occasion in this evening was the return of a relative and his wife from working in Russa. Ayah and I joined the women in their separate pace. All the aunts were present. We enjoyed Russian chocolate, drank green tea, told stories, tasted Osh — a rice dish of Central Asia.

My departure (离开) in a few weeks was now a main topic: we were planning to have a good-bye party, to cry, to keep in touch by Skype, and for me to invite them to my wedding. The last blessing was given by the oldest person present. We headed out the gate amid "Bye, Cathy! Come again!" "Okay! Come to our house next time!" …

Seven months ago I didn't know these people or their language. I didn't know that I would visit from place to place and find them just that joy.

(1)、What can we know about Doctor Aka?
A、He is kind and humorous. B、He is head of the village. C、He never greets others. D、He works in Russia.
(2)、What's the purpose of the author stay in the village for seven months?
A、To sell bread. B、To teach English. C、To build roads. D、To visit a relative.
(3)、What can we learn about the party from paragraph 3?
A、It's for a couple's returning from abroad. B、It's hosted by Shakhnoza Sister. C、It pushed the author to buy a car. D、It only served green tea to the guests.
(4)、What can we infer about the author from the text?
A、She is planning to comeback. B、She wants to become a nurse. C、She is unwilling to have a wedding. D、She misses her days in the village.

How important has Internet become in our lives? The Pew Research Center conducted a survey to celebrate the Web's 25th birthday. The researchers were greatly heartened by what they found.

"In 2006, only 14 percent of American adults used Internet. Today, it's 87 percent," said Lee Rainie, the director of the Pew Research Center's Internet Project. "It is what has impressed us the most."

The survey also showed that 70 percent of the Internet users have been treated kindly or generously online while 25 percent of respondents said they have been treated unkindly. More than half—56 percent—of users said they've seen an online community come together to help someone solve a problem. 25 percent said they've left an online group because members were too unpleasant.

When Pew asked questions about whether being online has enriched people's relationships—or not—the results were very positive: 67 percent of Internet users said their online communication with family and friends has generally strengthened those relationships. Only 18 percent said it has generally weakened those relationships.

According to the survey, 53 percent of Internet users said Internet has become the hardest tech tool to give up. It is 15 percent higher than the result of a similar survey conducted in 2006. In fact, more people said they would have a harder time stopping using Internet than giving up TV. (These days, so much great television streams across the Internet that it makes sense.)

"In our survey, we have found that the Web makes a few people very unhappy. There's strong evidence pointing to the fact that Internet users tend to compare their daily lives with the ‘highlight moments' of their friends' lives," said Lee Rainie. "It's really silly."

(1)、Which is the most impressive result of the latest survey?
A、Users' dependence on Internet. B、The fast growth of Internet users. C、The kindness of online communities. D、The strengthened family relationships.
(2)、How many participants found it the hardest to give up Internet in 2006?
    A、15%. B、38%. C、53%. D、68%.
(3)、What message does Lee Rainie seem to convey in the last paragraph?
A、Online depression cannot be avoided. B、Don't show off in online communities. C、Don't make unnecessary comparison. D、Copy your friends' wonderful lifestyles.
(4)、How do the researchers feel about the results of the survey?
    A、Optimistic. B、Worried. C、Unconcerned. D、Doubtful.

Mickey Mouse welcomed visitors to his new home in China on June 16, 2016 as Disney opened its first theme park in the country.

The park, located in the city of Shanghai, opened with fireworks.

Joe Schott, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, said, "I can promise you that there is still so much left to be revealed, and I cannot wait to share it all with you in the months and years to come."

Tens of thousands streamed into Shanghai Disneyland for its debut(问世), an event that was nearly two decades in the making. The $ 5.5 billion resort(度假胜地) covers 963 acres, but Disney has already begun expansion.

Company officials said they tried to reflect Chinese preferences in the new park.

"We didn't build Disneyland in China, we built China's Disneyland," said Bob Iger, Disney's chairman.

There's a traditional Chinese tea house featuring local food. The Lion King performed in Mandarin for the first time, features the Monkey King and characters dressed in Chinese opera garb(服装)to appeal to an Asian audience.

In the castle, guests not only walk through, as they do in other Disney parks, they can also eat and shop. When it was discovered that Chinese people didn't have a favourite Disney princess, the company decided that the castle would feature all the princesses. Parks in California and France are based on the Sleeping Beauty story.

"The visitors can learn the princesses over time, and this gives them an opportunity to have an introduction to all of the princess stories," said executive producer Ali Rubinstein.

However, China's Disneyland sometimes are not closely related to China. Disney's only animated film based on a Chinese story, Mulan, which tells the tale of a Chinese warrior woman, got neither its own ride nor stage show. The character appears only as a statue and afloat in the parade.

(1)、What's Joe Schott's attitude to Shanghai Disney Resort?
    A、Disappointed. B、Concerned. C、Doubtful. D、Confident.
(2)、What can be learned from what Bob said in paragraph 6?
A、They build the theme park in China. B、The theme park belongs to China. C、The theme park has Chinese elements. D、The theme park has a long Chinese history.
(3)、Why does China's Disneyland have all kinds of princesses?
A、Chinese people have no certain favourite Disney princess. B、Chinese people don't know any princess characters in Disney movies. C、Chinese people believe "the more, the better". D、Parks in other countries are based on the Sleeping Beauty story.
(4)、What is the purpose of giving the Mulan example?
A、To show the Chinese character of Disneyland. B、To show Mulan is an important part of Chinese culture. C、To show China's Disneyland has not reflected enough Chinese culture. D、To show Disneyland has too few Chinese character films.

It was a dark night in Texas when Luke Armstrong drove into town. He had a lot of things on his mind and he was driving slowly, thinking of solutions to his problems. He had a sick daughter named Anne, and he was worried she would give in to her illness before he could gather enough money to pay for the surgery (外科手术).

Suddenly, he noticed a flashy sports car parked by the side of the road. It looked like it had a broken tire, but Luke couldn't be too sure. He passed it without giving it a second thought and continued down the road.

He was so lost in thought that he almost missed the prone (俯卧的) figure of a human lying just by the side of the road. "What is it?" he said to himself and his truck stopped beside the figure.

It was a woman, and she was weak. Luke immediately knew he had to help her as soon as possible. He noticed her expensive outfit as he lifted her. "Perhaps she owns the fancy car I saw a few minutes ago," Luke said to himself as he moved her to his truck and turned on the heater.

He noticed that she seemed to be having trouble breathing, so he called 911 and reported his exact location as well as the predicament (困境) he found the woman in.

Soon the ambulance came, and the woman was carried away.

After checking on his daughter the next day, Luke decided to see how the woman he rescued was feeling. He had been told she was getting treated in the same hospital. It turned out that she was no longer in danger. She was very grateful for his kindness. After learning about his daughter, she expressed great sympathy (同情).
