Sirine Jahangir has been singing, writing and playing instruments since she was a little girl. She was badly injured in a traffic accident by the time she turned 5, so now the teen uses her gift "as a way to — not escape, but to help me through". Not only did her passion get her through some difficult times, but when she was 14 it also brought her to the "Britain's Got Talent" stage, where she impressed everyone with her performance.

Sirine was totally paralyzed by the time she was 10 years old. While her parents and doctors have tried to find treatments for her, there isn't much they can do. So her parents focused on helping her adjust to her new life, which was when her dad said she was first introduced to music. "I remember one day, we were driving in the car. This is about when she was getting to the stage where she couldn't look out the window anymore to see things, and I didn't know what to do. I just put the music on really loud. She started singing in the car, and she was so happy. And then she just found happiness every time I put music on," her father said.

It didn't take long for them to realize Sirine had tremendous talent. When she appeared on "Britain's Got Talent", she told everyone just how much her passion means to her. "I guess music heals me," she said. "That's just what I live by, and music is my thing." Then she headed over to the piano, where she played the piano and sang beautifully enough to bring the audience to tears! Unsurprisingly to everyone but Sirine, all four judges voted her into the next round of the competition!

Afterward, she said, "I can't even say it's a dream come true, because I didn't even dream of it at any point... I never thought that would be realistic in my life."

With needle-like teeth and a sharp-pointed nose, a gray nurse shark isn't a creature that most people would want to meet. But Shalise Leesfield isn't one of them.

The Australian teenager couldn't think of a better creature to meet when scuba diving off the coast of South West Rocks, near her home in Port Macquarie, a coastal town north of Sydney.

"Many people say gray nurse sharks look frightening, but I think they are the sweetest animals ever," she says.

The slow-moving sharks, which like to stay near the sea floor in warm, shallow waters, are — for the most part — harmless to humans. But the gray nurse shark is on the brink of extinction. Populations have dwindled and habitats have been lost due to ocean warming and human development, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), which lists the species as seriously endangered.

One area where they can still be seen is Fish Rock, an underwater cavern with a unique ecosystem, 40 miles up the coast from Leesfield's home. But fishers are allowed to access within 200 meters of Fish Rock. This is leading to a drop in the number of gray nurse sharks and increased pollution, says Leesfield. She wants to enlarge the no-fishing area, establishing a protected zone.

With Leesfield's efforts, the area has been nominated (提名) as a Hope Spot, which is part of the Mission Blue program launched by famous oceanographer Sylvia Earle that identifies places as critically important to the ocean's health and supports protection.

"When people think about Hope Spots, they think about Sydney Harbour or the Great Barrier Reef. So to get Fish Rock up on that list is just such incredible news," she says.

Now, Leesfield is working with politician Cate Faehrmann, marine spokesperson for the Australian Greens party in New South Wales, to legalize protection of the sharks and make the no-fishing zone protected by the law.

In group chats, some people may post their original photos. But that may give away your home address and other information. Images often contain a lot of information and various traces left by digital cameras or photo processing software.

This data, called Exchangeable Image File Format (EXIF), is a key tool for many professionals. It can detail whether the photographer used a flash, which digital effects were applied to a picture and when the photo was taken. EXIF can also contain the precise GPS coordinates (坐标) of the location where a photo was taken, according to CNN.

If you take a landscape picture from your window and send the original picture to a group chat, it means that you are releasing your location data to all strangers in the group. They may even accurately infer your house number by analyzing the shooting time and angle.

Not just in a group chat, sending an image in a text message, email, or other delivery tools will also include the accompanying information. So how do we protect our privacy when sending photos？

The most effective way is to avoid sending original photos in group chats. If it's necessary, try not to tap the "original picture". However, photos sent by WeChat Moments are automatically compressed (压缩) by the system, and they travel without location and other information, according to the WeChat team.

To tackle the problem at its root, we can delete and remove a picture's EXIF data on a computer. If you are using an IOS smartphone, you can turn off location services for the camera in the privacy settings. If you're using an Android, the settings vary. Typically, you can go to the setting menu and switch the services off for the camera, according to CTV News.

There is one more thing you can do — photoshop your photos before you share them. What comes with your edited images is photos without stored location data.

How to Be a Successful Student

Being a successful student should be one who is not only physically but also mentally healthy, who can deal with his studies successfully, and who is ready and fully prepared to devote himself to his study. 

Keep physically and mentally healthy.

Good health is the foundation for you to perform your learning tasks and realize your dreams.  Be sure not to demand too much of life. Take an optimistic attitude and face your life bravely.

Make study your prime task.

So make study your prime task in your daily life. You are supposed to observe school regulations, attend every class attentively and visit the library frequently. It's of vital importance to make the most use of your time at school to learn knowledge and develop your interest in your studies.

Try to take every opportunity to enrich your experiences, and broaden your horizons. You are required to take an active part in social work, build up your social connections and get to know people and make friends with them.

Be yourself.

Don't compare yourself with others. Every day you should only try to make yourself better, instead of worrying about how the girl sitting in front of you has prettier clothes or is getting better grades, etc.

The Person I Respect Most

I was waiting for my flight at an airport. I was leaving for London because I got a new job there. It was said that my new boss was a typical English gentleman — polite, modest, humorous and considerate. I was excited as well as a little nervous about my new life.

With several long hours before my flight, I hunted for a book in the airport shops, bought a packet of cookies and found a place to sit. I took out the book and started to read. Although I was absorbed in my book, I happened to see that the man sitting beside me, as bold as he could be, grabbed (抓) a cookie or two from the bag in between us. Educated to be well-mannered, I tried to ignore it to avoid an argument. But to show that I was the owner, I started to take cookies from that bag too. Unfortunately, the man didn't get that hint (暗示), since he didn't stop grabbing the cookies.

"How annoying!" I thought. As the greedy cookie thief kept eating, I munched (用力咀嚼) some cookies and watched the clock.

I was getting angrier as the minutes went by, thinking, "If I weren't so nice, I would blacken his eyes." With each cookie I took, he took one, too; when only one was left, I wondered what he would do.

With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh, he took the last cookie and broke it in half. He offered me a half, and ate the other half. I grabbed it from him, glared at him and thought, "This guy has some nerve and he is so rude! Why didn't he even show any thanks?"

I had never known when I had been so angry, and sighed in relief when my flight was called. I took my belongings and headed to the gate quickly, refusing to look back at the rude thief. I boarded the plane, sank in my seat, and looked for my book, which was almost completed.
