When I was a boy, we had a tiny television set. Although it only had one channel, I would always be in my chair when cartoons came on.

The one I liked best was The Jetsons (《杰森一家》), a cartoon full of fantastic machines that could do anything. I always smiled or even laughed when I watched it and dreamed that one day I would have machines like this to do all my work, so I could just sit back and relax.

Now my life is full of machines like these,     ▲    . Just today I had to spend most of the morning downloading a new copy of my word list so I could write better. When I first started out, I wrote my stories online. Last week, I spent most of another morning trying to get my new coffee maker to work right. I seem to be swimming in a sea of new rules and problems that come with "new technology".

Now don't get me wrong. Computers and machines have done a lot to help all of us. I just want us to be able to use them without them using us. We always seem to be busy because we're spending most of our time using these machines.

I hope that in the future, machines can be more user-friendly so we needn't spend all our time on them. With machines, we can live an easier life, but they can never take the place of the time to spend with family and friends.

Chu Wenwen is famous as the "Beaver(河狸)Princess".Six years ago, she finished studying in Beijing Forestry University and went back to Xinjiang. It was then that Mengxin beavers became a part of her life.

The Mengxin beaver is an animal in danger in China. They are only found along the Ulungur River in Xinjiang. When Chu went there, she was shocked by what she saw. "Many beavers die from fighting for a place to live. Willow shrubs(灌木柳)are their most important food, but they were missing in the area," she said. " I decided to do something."

In 2018, Chu started the "beaver canteen" program and made a plan to plant willow shrubs for the beavers. To raise money, she posted videos on the Internet, showing how beavers build dams(水坝)and how she saved wild animals. Through her hard work, about 400,000 willow shrubs were planted with the money from Internet users.

With the help of Chu's team, the number of beaver nests has increased from 162 to 190 over the past four years. Chu said, "We will continue to encourage more people to take part in nature conservation".

Now, she is working on a new program called the "beaver ark". It's a hospital for wild animals which get ill or wounded(受伤).She also runs a "beaver guardian"program. It trains local people to patrol(巡逻)along the river.

A smile is the best language. The truth of a smile is that it's like a seed that can grow in a garden called "life".

If there is one thing I have missed the most in the past 3 years, it is to see other people smile. When every face has a mask(口罩)on it, you might feel safer. But your mind might start to feel sick. Over these last months, I've learned to notice the "stars" in people's eyes that they still have when they smile from behind a mask. But it isn't quite the same.

Every smile is like a gift. As I grow up, my mom's smile always warms my heart. I am so happy that it appears on the faces of my children. My grandparents' smile always has a happy "Hello!" along with it. My dad hardly smiles to us, but I always loved seeing it.

Over the years, I have also learned a lot about smiles. I have read that "We don't smile because we are happy. We are happy because we smile." I also read that "I have never seen a smiling face that wasn't beautiful." And I know that both of these things were true. What I remember most, though, is something from my teacher. He said, "If nobody wants us to be happy, why does smiling feel so good?"

It doesn't matter if you are wearing a mask or not. It doesn't matter if your teeth are white or not. Show the world your smile. Smiles share our love. Smiles spread our joy. Smiles make the world's better place. One of the greatest, kindness and most loving things you can do is to give another person your smile.

There are many colors in nature.I think you'll say "no". But I am afraid you are wrong. If you don't believe it, you may do a small test.

If you stay in a room with red windows, wallpaper, tables and chairs for two hours,you'll feel you have been there for four hours.

But if the room is blue, you'll feel you have been there for only an hour. And if a person walks out of a blue room and into a red room, his body temperature will rise.

Sujan Dhakal is a high school student from Maryland, America. Earlier 2022, he1 Braille literacy (读写能力）competitions. Braille is a written language for people2 blindness or low vision(视力). It uses raised dots(点)that can be3 using fingers.

Some players use the competitions to test their4 in Braille. And some want to win prizes.But for players like Sujan, it is a good time to develop5 .

A worker of this competition says, "Students who are blind or unable to see normally are6 .They may be the only student in their school or even in their county. And at this event, the students have a7 to come together and talk." In 2022, more than 8008 in the 1st to 12th grade joined in the Maryland Braille Challenge.Only the top scorers moved on to the National Braille Challenge. Sujan placed first,which gave9 a ticket to the national challenge.

" My dad is always more excited than I am10 I see the competition less as a competition—11 , more like a place to talk to people,"he said.

This was Sujan's fifth time to enter the national competition. Sujan didn't get any prize but he was not too12 about it. He said that13 is not the purpose (目的)of these competitions. In his eyes, it's the friendships that allow him to14 the events.

"I'll say this to everybody who really wants to win. If you win, that's15 . If you don't, then that's OK as well. Don't pay attention to winning but to people there."Sujan said.

Sanjiangyuan National Park is one of the most beautiful （place）in China. It lies in the heart of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(青藏高原)in southern Qinghai province. It covers 123,100 square kilometers. It is first national park in China.Thousands of local people play an important role in (protect) the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Tongde is a 44-year-old man. He first joined a park patrol(巡逻)in 2013. He said. "I felt happy and (excite) to work here to protect nature. This feeling has never gone away, and I still keep it to this day."

Another Tibetan custodian（看守人），Paltse, is 28 years old. He thinks that local people now live in a (good) environment than before." I was a child,I didn't pay much attention to the environment. But as I grew up, I (slow) noticed the environment had improved."he said. "I think that Ngoring Lake looks bigger now, and the water is so clean that you can scoop(捧起)it up with (you) hands and drink it."

Tsering Gyal, 49, comes from Madoi county. He has been a custodian for seven years. He has learnt a lot from his work. "I was a little worried when I (see)wild animals in the first few years.I stay calm now,I'm sure that the animals have no interest in harming(伤害) me. Humans and animals are getting closer,"he said.
