For many people, having a cup of coffee right out of bed is the best way to start a day. But a report from Asap Science says otherwise. 

It says the worst time for coffee is soon after we get up. When we wake up, our bodies start to make cortisol（皮质醇）. Cortisol helps us to think clearly and be quick to understand and act. The cortisol levels（数值；浓度）rise after we wake up and climb to the highest in about an hour. So there are two problems when we drink coffee during this time: our bodies will make less cortisol, and the cortisol will make coffee less useful. And that's why some of us drink more and more coffee.

Then, when's the best time to have coffee?When the cortisol levels are going down, the report says. Cortisol levels are usually highest between 8 a. m. and 9 a. m. , between noon and 1 p. m. , and between 5:30 p. m. and 6:30 p. m. So if you want to have coffee, enjoy it after these times, and this popular drink will help you the most.

Late Work

An essay not submitted in class on the due date will lose a letter grade for each class period it is late. If it is not turned in by the 4th day after the due date, it will earn a zero. Daily assignments not completed during class will get a zero. Short writings missed as a result of an excused absence will be accepted. 

Should Children Be Allowed to Get Bored?

Children need time to stand and stare. They should be allowed to get bored so that they can develop their ability to be creative. 

Children are expected by their parents to be reading a textbook all the time. However, research shows that it may hamper the development of their imagination, while boredom can give them opportunities to develop creativity. 

Boredom is often linked with loneliness, but a writer named Meera Syal said boredom had helped her in developing her mind. She told researchers about her childhood. Having few things to do, Syal often talked with her neighbors. She also tried to do things like learning to bake cakes. 

"But importantly, I thought and wrote a lot, because I was bored," Syal said. She kept a diary, filling her time with short stories and poems she made up.

Grayson Perry, an artist, grew up in a family with little money. He enjoyed himself by making up stories, drawing pictures for his stories and reading many books in the library. Bored but free, he spent hours looking out of the window, watching the changing clouds and seasons. Perry filled up his free time with what he liked. He became creative, because he could think freely. 

Dr Belton is an expert on the effects of emotions on learning. "Boredom could be an uncomfortable feeling," she said. "But some young people cannot deal with that boredom creatively. So sometimes they may break a classroom window, or drive a car out for a mad race. " Usually, when children have nothing to do, they would turn on the TV, the computer, or the phone. Their time on these things has increased, yet they need to have time to think about their experiences through play or just watching the world around them.

It is this kind of thinking that can inspire the imagination. On the other hand, the TV or phone may cut short the thinking process. That can be harmful to the development of creativity. "For developing the ability to be creative," Dr. Belton advised, "Perhaps we need to stand and stare, and stay off-line from time to time. "

Would you be surprised to learn that your eyes are like an eagle's eyes in some ways? You and an eagle（鹰）can see colors. And an eagle's eyes and yours are about the same size. But there are a lot more of a special type of cell（细胞） in an eagle's eyes than in your eyes. These cells send information to the eagle's brain. Getting a lot of information helps an eagle see much better than you. In fact, an eagle can spot a fish in the sea from a mile away.

You and an eagle have eyes that make tears. Your eyes make watery tears that clean your eyes. An eagle's eyes for watery tears and oily tears. Eagles dive into the sea to catch fish. The oily tears guard their eyes from the saltwater.

Like you, eagles have eyelids（眼睑）. You have two eyelids, and you close your eyes by lowering the top lid. When eagles close their eyes, their bottom lids raise up. Eagles have a third eyelid that moves across the eye every few seconds. It wipes（消除）dust away from the eye. An eagle can see through this third eyelid. The eyelid guards the bird's eyes when it swoops（抓取） at 100 miles an hour after its prey（捕食）.

Thirty engineers were working as a team in a company. They were young and interested in learning. The manager decided to teach them about finding real answers to problems. 

One day, the team was called for a 1  in a hall. They were quite surprised and all reached the hall holding different 2 . As they entered, they found a box placed in the center, full of balloons.

The Chinese government recently make a plan to set up a Panda National Park(PNP). Covering an area about three times  size of Yellowstone National Park, the PNP will be one of the first national parks in the country. 

The PNP's main goal is to protecting the natural ecosystems, preserving biological diversity, protecting ecological buffer zones, leaving behind precious natural assets(资产) for future generations. To achieve them, people make giant pandas serve an umbrella species(物种), bringing protection to a host of plants and animals in the southwestern and northwestern parts of China, (eventual) achieve a desired level of population in the wild.

All in all, the PNP is intended to provide stronger protection for all the species  live within the Giant Panda Range and significantly improve the health of the ecosystem in the area.

A man in black clothes jumps high into the air. Before he lands, he strikes（摆出）a pose. Sometimes, he carries a red fan. With long white sleeves（袖子）, he spreads his arms like wings. His dance is eye-catching, often attracting crowds. 

He is Chinese dancer Ma Jiaolong. Since 2020, he's made short videos of himself dancing in London. He has performed at the city's parks and iconic landmarks（标志性建筑物）like Tower Bridge. The 35-year-old has nearly 5 million followers on Tik Tok（Douyin）, where he shares his videos.

Classical Chinese dance combines（结合）martial arts（武术）movements with those of traditional Chinese opera. He started to learn it at 12. "I was attracted by the dancers who play ancient heroes through the movements of classical Chinese dance," said Ma.

Later, Ma studied at the Beijing Dance Academy. Since 2019, he has been teaching classical Chinese dance at Goldsmiths, University of London. 

Two years ago, Ma had to give online classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In his small home, he could only make small moves. One day, he took his wife's suggestion and danced at Greenwich Park, a popular tourist spot. She recorded Ma. He then made the video, added music and sent it to friends. "Surprisingly, they loved it, which inspired me to share it online," said Ma.

Later, Ma made more short videos. He added his dance moves with dazzling（令人赞叹的）action. People are often curious about his performances. So, while dancing, he likes to communicate with them. As his videos went viral（走红）, he received messages from people around the world. 

"Now, making and sharing short videos has become a part of my life, and most importantly, a way to introduce classical Chinese dance to more people, especially overseas views," said Ma.

Love Notes

From the time when each of my children started school, I packed their lunches. And in each lunch that I packed for them, I put a note, often written on a napkin. The note might be a thank-you for a special moment, a reminder of something we were happily looking forward to, or a bit of encouragement for a coming test or sporting event. 

In early grade school they loved their notes—they wrote something on them after school as a reply, and they even put notes in my lunches! But as the kids grew older they became self-conscious, and my older son, Marc, after being laughed at by his classmate for the notes, told me that he no longer needed my daily missives but I continued the tradition until the day when he graduated. 

Marc is now a successful doctor in Washington DC. Last November, Marc called me and asked me if he could stay with us for two months. It was six years since he began to work. This year his younger sister was leaving for college, his younger brother, Sam, will be a senior in high school. Sam, too, told me that he is too old for notes. But like his elder brother and sister, he will receive those notes till the day he graduates. 

I was especially excited and pleased to have Marc coming back home. 

During those two months, I was still making lunch every day for his younger brother. Of course, I packed one for Marc, too, then he could have his lunch on the way back to his home. Imagine my surprise when I got a phone call from my 30-year-old son, Marc, complaining his lunch from his home. "Did I do something wrong? Aren't I still your kid? Don't you love me any more, Mom?" were just a few of the questions he threw at me as I laughingly asked him what was wrong.

"My note, Mom," he answered. "Where's my note?"
