More and more people are drinking soft drinks with caffeine（咖啡因）in them. Some people drink cola every day. They have stomach（胃）problems and can't stop drinking these drinks. They are cola addicts.

If you are a cola addict, you should stop drinking these drinks. You can drink green tea or black tea. You can even drink a little coffee. Soft drinks with caffeine will be bad for your bones（骨骼）. You may also get teeth problems, headaches and even high blood pressure（高血压）.

Energy drinks are not healthy either. They are full of caffeine. And you should never drink energy drinks on an empty stomach.

Water is the healthy drink you can have. If you want to drink something tasty, you can add some lemons. You can also drink as much fresh juice as you want. There are lots of healthier choices out there.

Great poets spend a lot of time thinking before they finish a poem.

They are always worried about the choice of the words in their poems, and some of them cannot rest until they find the right ones. There're a lot of poems in history, but only a small group of them are still popular today.

You cannot read a poem like you read a newspaper or magazine. In order to understand the feelings in a poem, you should read it aloud and you should read the complete poem instead of parts of it. Sometimes you have to read the poem several times before you can understand it.

Tom is a confident boy. He likes playing baseball. He practices a lot in his backyard(后院). He has always wanted to be a great batter(击球手).

One day, after gathering his baseball equipment(装备), Tom went to practice in the backyard again.

"I'm the greatest baseball player in the world, " he said confidently before he started.

Then he threw the ball in the air, swung(挥舞) and missed.

But he didn't give up. He picked up the ball, said to himself, " I'm the greatest player ever!" and threw it into the air once more. He swung at the ball, but once again he missed.

He stopped for a while to rest and think. Then once again he threw the ball into the air and said, "I'm the greatest baseball player who has ever lived. "He swung the bat as hard as he could, but unluckily, he missed the ball again.

Wow!" he cried out. "What an amazing pitcher(投手) I am!"

We will often run into situations(情况) in life where we fail. But if we can have a sense of humor about it and make fun of ourselves a bit, like Tom did, we can get through hard times.

My mother used to ask me what the most important part of the body was. I got different answers at different ages.

When I was young，l thought sound was very important to us，so I said，"My ears，Mum. " But she shook(摇动) her head and said no. Several years passed，and she asked me again. I believed that I got the right answer after thinking it over. So I told her, "Sight is very important to everyone, so it must be our eyes. " But she told me I was wrong. I tried many times after that, but her answer was always the same. Till(直到. . . 为止) last year，my grandma died. Everybody was crying，everybody was hurt. My mom looked at me and asked me with tears in her eyes. "Do you know the answer now?" I was surprised when she asked me this question then. "My son, the answer is your shoulder(肩膀). Finally, I realized(意识到) all she hoped is that I can have enough love and friends so that I will have a shoulder to cry on when I need it.

    Can you remember your life when you were just one year old? It's almost impossible, isn't it?- in fact, we usually remember very little of life before the age of seven. It feels like at that young age, we don't know how to remember things well.

    Why can't we remember anything about our lives when we were babies? Scientists have worked hard on this problem for many years. Now, a study in Canada may give us an answer. It is a study about "neurogenesis"（神经形成）. During the neurogenesis, the brain makes neurons（神经元）and cells（细胞），two important things that help us remember.

    From the study, we know that when the brain is doing a lot of "neurogenesis", it moves away a lot of things we remember before. So we can't remember things at that time. When we were born, our brain worked very hard at "neurogenesis", our memories（记忆）from that time don't stay with us.

    Canadian scientists did some tests on the mouse-some of them young, and some of them older. They found that the young mouse doing neurogenesis had very few memories. For older ones, they found that memories could easily stay.

    Paul Frankland, a scientist, said, "We think our studies begin to answer why we have no memories from our earliest years. "But even if science can answer that question, there is till a long way to go before it shows us how to remember them.
