My family unit of four was on the stricter side when it came to COVID- 19 precautions. We had decided not to attend most group1. We had2about the health risks posed by this new virus, especially as we waited for our kids to be vaccinated.

My parents came up from Texas in December 2020 to quarantine (隔离期) before seeing us and3to visit us occasionally after that. We tried to visit them too but got4twice—first when the virus Delta made the trip

too 5, then when my grandma and my older son separately were6with Omicron.

Finally, in February 2022, we got there. It had been more than two years once my kids had seen my grandparents, and my younger son did not7being on a plane. We met my parents, grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousins in    Colorado. There, my kids8her baby cousin. I9my kids as they swam, watched fireworks, generally10with their older cousins. They were so11with everyone, despite how infrequently we had gotten together over the past few years.

Several times, I looked over at my kids playing with my relatives, their relatives, forming their own 12 , and felt something that I rarely feel about being with other people: longing, the 13for more of this.

As COVID- 19 is not over, we are still trying to    keep our 14limited. But with our younger son  finally 15we are cracking open the door, just a little, to be with the people we love.

About five years ago, I was part of a pilot group(试验小组) for my employer tasked with figuring out how to hire and train people with disabilities and make them successful inside the organization. My boss was very kind and decided to be the1for the group. Until then we had only hired people with the visually2.

I led the3of a candidate with an autism( 自闭症) disability . The candidate had the4However, our interview team felt that the disability would5him learning the skills and being successful.

I convinced my peers to give him a chance to try out—6it was a pilot program meant for our organization to learn too. I gave the candidate a lot of7and I became one of his trainers. Our

HR department was not too supportive to take some risks so we could only hire him as a8contractor.

The candidate slowly and surely stood out in the workplace. There were many barriers along the way but the candidate came to be9. by his colleagues and his leader. I continued to train him10and helped him to get over a number of challenges his disability presented at the workplace.

Fast forward five years, he called me last night to let me know that he got a formal11yesterday from his manager as a regular employee with a job title. I.12him and told him my joy.

He went on to say "Sir,13your support all these years, I would not be here". I told him "Your success is the14of your hard work and persistence. You are an inspiration to a lot of people with15disabilities. "

Isn't it wonderful that a person with disability succeeds in a workplace?

Around twenty years ago I was living in New York.1I had a lot of experience and a Master's degree，I couldn't find2work.

I was driving a school bus to make ends meet and3with a friend, for I had lost my flat. I had4five interviews with a company but they said I did not get the job." Why has my life become so5?" I thought painfully.

As I pulled the bus over to6a little girl，she handed me an earring7I should keep it8somebody claimed (认领) it. The earring was painted black and said "BE HAPPY".

At first I got angry. Then it hit me—I had been giving all of my9to what was going wrong with my10rather than what was right！I decided to make a11of fifty things I was happy with .Later，I decided to12more things to the list. That night there was a phone call for me from a director at a large13.She asked me if I would give a lecture14stress management to 200 medical workers. I said yes.

My15there went very well，and before long I got a well-paid job .To this day I know that it was because I changed my way of thinking that I completely changed my life.

One March morning, my husband, my children and I went out to McDonalds. It was just our way of 1 play time with our family. We were standing in line, 2to be served when everyone around us began to back away.

As I turned around, I smelled a 3 smell. Standing behind me were two homeless men. As I looked down at the short man4 to me, he was smiling at me. His beautiful blue 5 were full of God's Light. He said "Good day" as he counted the few 6 he had been holding. The second man was fumbling (摆平) with his hands, standing behind his friend and keeping laughing and talking to himself. I realized the second man was 7mentally (精神上) disabled. The young lady at the counter asked the short man what he 8. He said, "Coffee is all, Miss. " That was all he could9. To sit in the 10and warm up, they had to buy something.

Just then, I noticed all eyes in the restaurant11me. I smiled and asked the young lady to give me two more breakfasts. I then walked to the table that the two men had chosen as a 12 spot. I put the 13 on the table and laid my hand on the short man's cold hand. He looked up at me with tears in his eyes, and said, "Thank you."

When I sat down, my husband smiled at me and said, "That is14 God gave you to me, honey—to give me hope." We held hands for a moment and at that time, me knew that we were not church goers but we were believers. That short man's smile 15 me the pure Light of God.

I used to be a very self-centered person, but in the past two years I have really changed. I have started to think about other people 1 I think about myself. I am happy that I am becoming a 2person:

I think my 3started when I was at Palomar College. At first, I just wanted to get my 4, and be left alone. I thought I was smarter than everyone else, so I hardly ever 5to anyone in my classes. By the end of my first semester, I was really 6. It seemed as if everyone but me had made friends and was having fun. So I tried a(n) 7. I started asking people around me how they were doing, and if they were having trouble I 8to help. That was really a big 9for me. By the end of the year, I had several new friends, and two of 10are still my best friends today.

A bigger cause of my new 11, however, came when I took a part-time job at a Vista Nursing Home. One old lady there who had Alzheimer s disease became my 12. Every time I came into her room, she was so 13because she thought I was her daughter. Her real daughter never 14her, so I took her place. She let me 15. That making others feel good make me feel good, too. When she died, I was 16, but I was very grateful to her.

I think I am a much 17, person today than I used to be, and I hope I will not 18these experiences. They have 19e to care about other people more than about myself. 20who I am today, and I could not say that a few years ago.

All of us in Monte Vista Christian School know we'll one day have graduation photos for the yearbook taken. As the time 1, the girls start to have a 2 about what they'll wear and where to take the photos, while the boys,3, hardly talk about it. As for me, I 4 for my photos to be taken by the sea.

When I arrived there, I met my photographer, Annie. She asked me to make some poses and I 5 her advice. After that, I asked if she could make me look 6 by taking a photo in a different way,7 I'm less than 1.6 meters tall. To my 8 she responded, "I will make no 9 to make you look like someone you're not. You look good in your own way." She 10 she wouldn't try to edit the photos either.
