Derek Rabelo was born in Brazil in 1992. His father called him Derek after a famous 1star, Derek Ho. Derek's father wanted Derek to become a surfer, too, but there was a 2: unluckily, Derek was born 3 . His father's dream to see his son surf seemed4!

Technology is developing fast and it has become an important part of our life. Then what will the world be like in the future?

3-Dfood will be both delicious and nutritious(有营养的). We can use 3-D printers to print some basic materials.     ①  And we can go further. Scientists believe that we just need to turn on a printer in the kitchen and then we can enjoy our favourite food whenever we like.

   ②   5 G network will allow many more people to get information. Big companies like China Mobile and China Unicom will start to offer 5G. It is said that 5G promises download speeds 10 to 20 times faster than 4G. For example, we can download a film within just 1 second. But with a 4G network, it takes a few minutes. There will be much bandwidth(带宽)and we can get unlimited(无限的)information.

Underwater cities will provide more space. The earth is becoming more and more crowded. We may turn to underwater homes, which will be built as low as 15kilometers below the sea. And the different temperatures at the different depths(深度)of the sea can be used to provide power for the homes.

   ③   For us common people on the earth, the dream of travelling around space will come true. In the coming years, spacecraft will be as popular as buses, trains and planes. We can leave our home and enter space to take an adventure. And even we will get used to living there.

A robot will be a part of life. Robots can do many of the same things as we humans do like driving cars. But they will be used in other areas as well. They will be able to think. They can tell the difference between right and wrong. They can feel sadness or joy. When we are lonely, they can have a talk with us like real friends.

I've loved my mother's desk since I was just tall enough to sit above the top of it. Mother sat writing letters. Standing by her chair, looking at the ink bottle, pens, and white paper, I decided that the act of writing must be a most wonderful thing in the world.

Years later, during her final illness, Mother kept different things for my sister and brother. "But the desk," she said again, "is for Elizabeth."

I never saw her angry, never saw her cry. I knew she loved me; she showed it inaction. But as a young girl, I wanted to have heart-to-heart talks between mother and daughter. They never happened. And a gulf opened between us. I was" too emotional(易动感情的)". But she lived" on the surface(表面)".

But the present of her desk told me, as she'd never been able to, that she was pleased that writing was my chosen work. I cleaned the desk carefully and found some papers inside — a photo of my father and a one-page letter, folded and refolded many times. It was my letter.

The Straw(稻草)Bear Festival

It is a traditional celebration in one small UK town. It runs for three days every year in January. The festival celebrates the beginning of the agricultural(耕种的)year. People there enjoy watching bears dance. A few men wear straw bear costumes and dance for others.

The Cologne Carnival(狂欢节)

It is one of Europe's biggest street festivals. It starts at l1:1l am on November 11 and lasts till February 14 next year. Local people call the time the "crazy" season. During the festival, people put on colorful clothes and play music to celebrate it in the street. The festival has a history of 194 years. Each year, about 1. 5 million people take part in it.

Day of the Dead

It is celebrated in Mexico every year between October 31 and November 2. It's not a scary day like its name, instead, it's a colorful holiday. People believe the spirits of their ancestors(祖先)will return to the world of the living on that day. They share food and drinks to keep the spirits alive and the spirits can be with them in this way.

Oliver Twist

Oliver Twist is one of the famous (小说)written by Charles Dickens. It mainly talks about the boy named Oliver Twist. His parents (死)when he was very young，so he has to grow up with many poor (陌生人).
