    Hidden London: the Exhibition

Visit an "abandoned" Tube station underworld and discover what secrets are hidden beneath our busy streets in our new Hidden London exhibition at London Transport Museum!

Hidden London: the Exhibition takes you on a journey of some of London's most secret spaces in the world's oldest underground system. These "forgotten" parts of the Tube network have incredible stories to tell about Britain's wartime past.

You can enjoy the largest number of rare photos and objects from disused stations that have been brought together in one location.

Discover stories about how Churchill took shelter at the height of the Blitz deep underground at Down Street station. See how shelterers lived down at Clapham South station, where they slept and how they kept entertained.

You can also explore other locations that we have recreated in our Global Gallery, including the historic abandoned ticket hall at Aldwych station with an original 1930s ticket office.

The exhibition uncovers why these "lost" parts of the underground network exist. Changes in population, economic priorities and political pressures have all led to spaces being abandoned. But they rarely stay that way. While some sections of the Tube system lie "forgotten", many have been repurposed for new activities and are used for special Hidden London tours, growing salad leaves, and for filming locations, including Charing Cross, which featured in Skyfall (2012).

    Admission Charges:

    Child Ticket: FREE

    Adult Ticket:16.50 per ticket

I have dreamt of taking a trip to Hawaii since I graduated, but the best thing always needs waiting. I took a trip with my friends to Haleakala National Park, which lies in Hawaii.

When we arrived at Haleakala National Park, we were advised to watch the early morning sunrise. I was lost in the sightseeing that afternoon, so I could hardly wait to see the sunrise. In the next morning, we all got out of bed very early and got to the seaside at 3 o'clock. In the first half hour, we imagined how wonderful it would be when the first light came out through the thick clouds and how soft it would be when the light touched our skin, so we waited and waited. However, another half an hour later, I gradually lost my patience since there was nothing but the chilly darkness, and I felt that I was frozen to death. But my friends were still extremely cheerful.

Nearly another one hour later, "Amazing!" Judy burst out and we all shouted to welcome the light, which was really unbelievable. Until today, I dare say that it is the most impressive sunrise in my life. However, waiting in the morning darkness is also one memory I cannot wipe from my mind forever.

Waiting sometimes is really a hard thing for most of us as it needs patience and strong-willed determination, but what about the result after that? It might turn out to be pleasing, unbelievable and satisfying. So, it is really worthwhile to wait for the best.

(1)、What can we learn from the passage?
A、The author's friends and the author took a trip to China. B、Hawaii is a good place to enjoy the sunrise. C、The author enjoyed the worst sunrise in his life. D、Sometimes, it is worth waiting for the best.
(2)、When did they see the first light of the sunrise?
    A、At about 3 o'clock. B、At about 4 o'clock. C、At nearly 5 o'clock. D、At nearly 6 o'clock.
(3)、What's the meaning of the underlined word chilly in Paragraph 2?
    A、Total. B、Cold. C、Terrible. D、Interesting.
(4)、What's the author's attitude towards waiting for the sunrise?
A、Excited all the time. B、Afraid all the time. C、Firstly excited and then afraid. D、Firstly excited but then impatient.

Years ago it was popular to speak of a generation gap, a disagreement between young people and their elders. Parents said that children did not show them proper respect and obedience(服从), while children complained that their parents did not understand them at all. What had gone wrong? Why had the generation gap suddenly appeared? Actually the generation gap has been around for a long time. Many people argue that a gap is built into the fabric(结构) of our society.

One important cause of the generation gap is the chance that young people have to choose their own ways of life. In more traditional societies, when children grow up, they are expected to live in the same area as their parents, to marry people that their parents know and agree to, and to continue the family occupation. In our society, young people often travel great distances for their education, move out of the family home at an early age, marry or live with people whom their parents have never met, and choose occupations different from those of their parents.

In our easily changing society, parents often expect their children to do better than they did: to find better jobs, to make more money, and to do all the things that they were unable to do. Often, however, the strong wish that parents have for their children is another cause of the disagreement between them. Often, they discover that they have very little in common with each other.

Finally, the speed at which changes take place in our society is another cause of the gap between the generations. In a traditional culture, elderly people are valued for their wisdom, but in our society the knowledge of a lifetime may become out of date overnight. The young and the old seem to live in two very different worlds, separated by different skills and abilities. No doubt, the generation gap will continue to be a feature of American life for some time to come. Its causes are rooted in the freedom and changes of our society, and in the rapid speed at which society changes.

(1)、What is the text mainly about?
A、The concept of generation gap. B、The reasons for generation gap. C、Ways to reduce generation gap. D、Attitudes towards generation gap.
(2)、In modern society, young people often ________.
A、depend on their parents to make a life B、live with their parents in the same area C、ask their parents for the best advice D、have very little in common with their parents
(3)、What can we infer from paragraph 3?
A、Parents should be strict with their children. B、The generation gap is partly caused by the older generation. C、Parents couldn't do things well themselves. D、The young never want to satisfy their parents.
(4)、Which of the following also causes the generation gap?
A、Parents are not strict enough with their children. B、The young value the old too much for their wisdom. C、Young people don't have the knowledge of a lifetime. D、The society develops too fast.

Lego is considering a brick(积木) rental plan in an attempt to cut down on plastic waste. The Danish toymaker has promised to make all its bricks from sustainable(可持续的) sources by 2030 and is investing significant resources into finding alternatives.

Tim Brooks, vice-president responsible for sustainability, said the company was "totally open" to the idea of a product rental plan but admitted that lost pieces could produce a significant problem. "What are the chances of giving them to an eight-year-old child and getting them all back again?" Mr. Brooks added.

"There is a lot of technical thinking that needs to be done. We are right at beginning of that." Mr. Brooks said Lego was exploring several ideas with a view to producing the highest value from products while consuming the least amount of resources. He said many would "probably never see the light of day" and there was no current plan to try out a rental plan.

Lego has come under increasing pressure to reduce its carbon footprint among growing international alarm about the impact of plastic waste on the environment. It produces 19 billion pieces per year—36,000 a minute—that are made entirely of plastic while much of the inside packaging is also plastic.

So far, the only breakthrough has been the development of a line of bricks made from plant-based plastic sourced from sugarcane. The green trees, plants and flowers were first included in Lego sets late last year but make up only 1% — 2% of the total amount of plastic elements produced. Henrik Niekson, a production supervisor(主管) in Lego's factory, said last year: "We need to learn again how to do this."

Lego reportedly releases around a million tons of carbon dioxide each year, with about 75% coming from raw materials that go into factories. The company has invested more than £ 100,000,000 and hired 100 people to research non-plastic alternatives. It is aiming to keep all of its packaging out of landfill by 2025.

(1)、Lego is making great efforts to ________.
A、promote its brick rental plan B、raise its production efficiency C、explore ways to reduce plastic waste D、develop new products
(2)、According to Mr.  Brooks, Lego's brick rental plan________.
A、is well under way B、has a long way to go C、is totally useless D、goes against Lego's interest
(3)、The writer tells of Lego's stress of reducing plastic waste by means of _________.
    A、figures B、examples C、comparison D、classification
(4)、What is Lego's attitude towards developing non-plastic alternatives?
    A、Defensive. B、Determined. C、Disapproving. D、Doubtful.

One of the most effective skills you can have in life is powerful and effective time management. Here are vital time management tips for getting your goals.

    Set goals the right way.

If you don't set your goals the right way, then you'll lack the proper targets, which will force you to fall off track. But when you set them the right way, the sky is the limit. Use proper goal setting method to help you see things through. And when you do set those goals, make sure you have powerful deep down meanings for wanting to achieve them.

Find a good time management system.

Make to-do lists in the evening for the next day.

Every single evening before bed, make a list for the next day. Look at your goals and see what you can do to help move you closer. It takes time. But by making to-do lists, you're effectively setting goals for the day. Daily goals are easier to achieve while helping to move us towards the longer and bigger goals. But that happens by creating to-do lists.

    A. This doesn't happen overnight.

    D. You cannot reach your goals without managing your time well.

Joyce is in the fourth grade and he joined the noisy children of his class as usual. "Children! Silence!" Mangat Madam suddenly entered the class. She announced next week would be math week. "I'd like each of you to work on a project. You could do it individually or in a group." she instructed. "The topic for the project needs approving tomorrow and it has to be displayed at the math week exhibition. The best project will be awarded and there is also a surprise gift from my side," she added.

Joyce, who is extremely good at math, sat in the corner seat of the first bench with Karan, an average. Karan asked Joyce if they could work on the math project together. Joyce replied in a prideful tone, "Ha-ha you want to join me. I think I will do the project on my own." Joyce wanted to get awarded and the surprise gift all for himself from Mangat Madam.

After deep consideration, Joyce decided to work on a math magic quiz on the circuit board(电路板). The next day in school, Mangat Madam arrived in the classroom and all the children submitted their topics for math exhibition. They all chose to work in a group except Joyce. In the following days, Joyce gathered all the materials for the project such as wires, bulbs(灯泡), a switch and a thin plywood board(胶合板). He worked out a few mathematical basic operations to be fixed on the board so that when the wire of the circuit touched the right answer, the bulb glowed(发光). Joyce completed the project and was happy with the result.

The evening before the exhibition, while packing his school bags, Joyce again checked the project to see if it was working fine. Alas! All the lights that were to glow did not seem to light at all. Without finding the reason, Joyce was tense. However, he decided to take the same project to the school as he couldn't change the topic at the last minute. Then came the next day, and everybody was fascinated in the exhibition.
