Most American families are smaller than the families in other countries. Most American families have one or two parents and one or two children each.

Children in the US will leave their parents' home when they grow up. They usually live far from their parents because they want to find good jobs. They often write to their parents or telephone them. And they often go to visit their parents on holiday.

Parents usually let their children choose their own jobs. Americans think it important for young people to decide on their lives by themselves.

Children are asked to do some work around their house. And in many families, children are paid for doing some housework so that they learn how to make money for their own use.

Once upon a time, there lived a rich man. He had a servant（仆人）. He and the servant loved wine and good food very much. Each time the rich man left his home, the servant would drink the wine and eat up all the nice food in the house. The rich man knew what his servant did, but he had never caught his servant doing that.

One morning, when he left home, he said to the servant, "Here are two bottles of poison（毒药）and some nice food in the house. You must take care of them." With these words, he went out.

But the servant knew what the rich man said was untrue. After the rich man was away from his home, he enjoyed a nice meal. Because he drank too much, he was drunk and fell to the ground. When the rich man came back, he couldn't find his food and his wine. He became very angry. He woke the servant up. But the servant told his story very well. He said a cat had eaten up everything. He was afraid to be punished, so he drank the poison to kill himself.

The car was invented just a century ago. You may know all kinds of cars' names, but many people don't know who was the inventor of the first car. The first car was invented not by an English man, but by an American. His name was Henry Ford.

Henry was born in a poor family. He was the eldest of the six children. When he was a boy, he became interested in watches and machines. When he was twelve years old, his mother died. Soon he had to work in a machine shop for two dollars and fifty cents a week. In the evenings he repaired watches for another dollar a week. The hard life made him strong and able.

At that time, there was another interest in the life of the young Ford. He wished of making a machine. It could run without horses, so named horseless carriage. He overcame a lot of difficulties and in April 1893, the "horseless carriage" was invented at last. It was the first car. Later Henry Ford founded the Ford Motor Company. He was really the first inventor of the car in the world.

Food safety is a problem in all places around the world and people in different areas of the world prepare foods in different ways. The WHO released（发布）five simple rules for preparing food in a safe way. They call these rules the "Five Keys to Safer Food".

Key 1: Keep clean.

 People should wash their hands often—before touching food and while they are preparing food. People should wash all surfaces and equipment used for preparing food.

Key 2: Separate raw（生的）and cooked.

Raw foods should not touch prepared foods.  

Key 3:

People should cook eggs and meat especially carefully. These foods may carry more micro-organisms（微生物）than other foods. Food like soup must be boiled for at least a minute to make it be cooked completely. It is also important that people re-heat cooked food completely.

Key 4: Keep food al safe temperatures.

When people are finished with eating, they should keep the left food in a refrigerator below 5℃ and shouldn't store it for too long. At room temperature, about 20℃. the amount of micro-organisms can increase very quickly. But temperatures above 60℃ or below 5℃ control the growth of micro-organisms.

Key 5: Use safe water and fresh materials

 Damaged or old food may develop harmful chemicals as it gets older.

Last Saturday, my friends and me went to climb the West Mountain. While climb, we enjoyed the sunny weather. We were very delighted reach the top without much time or effort. Therefore, we found it more difficult to go down. So we went slowly but helped each other when necessary. Though I took care a lot, unfortunate, I slipped and hurt my leg badly. As the result, I could hardly stand up. One of my friend came to me immediately and carried me on the back till we reached for the foot of the mountain. I am very thankful of having such good friends.
