Zhao Hua is a student from a university. He led a group of university student volunteers one year ago. They help children at a primary school with their studies and daily lives.

"When I was a small child," Zhao said, "I knew March 5th was a day for people to learn from Lei Feng and help others, but I didn't know the real meaning of the spirit of Lei Feng. Now when I see the smiling faces of the kids I helped, I understand Lei Feng.

Helping others makes me happy.

Lei Feng(1940-1962) is one of the most famous soldiers(士兵) in Chinese history.

He lost his parents when he was very young. His neighbors brought him up. He died in an accident at the age of 22. He did many good deeds in his short life. For example, he gave his own money to the parents of another soldier, and bought a ticket for a woman he didn't know without telling her his name.

On March 5th. 1963, Chairman Mao called on people to" Learn from Lei Feng" and made the day "Lei Feng Day". Today over 50 years passed. Some people say that the spirit of Lei Feng is out. There were many reports about the coldness(冷漠) of people towards strangers. This made many Chinese people think about themselves.

Many people think we need to promote(提倡) that spirit again. The important thing is that we must be ready to help others and make it a habit.

Dogs like living with people. They are very friendly. They can do many things for people.

Some dogs help people to look after sheep, other dogs help them to find the lost children. And some of the dogs can help the blind.

There is a kind of dog. His name is Seeing Eye dog. Now we can see this kind of dog all over the world. They are working for the blind. The Seeing Eye dog is strong and easy to train. He helps the blind to walk from place to place. Before a dog becomes a Seeing Eye dog, he must go to a training school for about three months. First, the dog has to learn to sit or stay when he hears the trainer's call. In his next lesson, the dog learns to take his trainer across busy streets. The dog has many things to learn. At the end of the training school, he must take tests. When he passes the test, the Seeing Eye dog will do things by himself.

Now he can help the blind people. The new master(主人) may be a man, a woman, or even a child. It takes the dog and his blind master about a month to learn to work and live together.

These days I have been reading an interesting book called Robinson Crusoe. Do you know about it? It was written by Daniel Defoe. Have you heard of him? He was a famous English writer, who was born in London in 1660 and died in 1731.

Robinson Crusoe is one of the world's most popular adventure novels. It tells a story about an English sailor, whose name is Robinson Crusoe. He is caught in a heavy storm at sea on his way to Africa. After floating for some time, he arrives on an island, where there are no people. In order to survive, Robinson searches for food, builds a hut, makes tools and raises animals with his strong minds as well as his wisdom. He comes back to the human society after living on the island for about 28 years.

The novel shows us the experiences of a brave man and it also introduces us the spirit of never giving up. It is so popular that it has been translated into many foreign languages and is loved by readers from all over the world.

    Our new English teacher, Mr. White, arrived today. He's American. He smiles a lot and he's friendly but he speaks very fast. It's hard to understand his words. He also expects us to study hard, and speak English all the time in our English lessons.

    During the first class, Mr White introduced himself, and showed us photos of his family. He has got a big family, two brothers and a sister. His brothers all look like him. They are very tall and they have dark hair, but one brother has a beard (胡须). His sister is slim and she has blonde hair. They were smiling in all of the photos and look friendly.

    Then he told us about America and Americans. He showed us how Americans say "Hi! How are you doing?" And shake hands when they meet people. We all practiced. That was fun. And he also told us that Americans are cheerful, lively people. They smile a lot and are usually friendly because Americans think it is polite to be friendly.

    At the end of the lesson, we all said "Goodbye", "See you soon" to everyone. English lessons are going to be enjoyable.

    Being safe at school and in your everyday life needs knowledge. If you remember the following information, your life will be safer.

   ①  you should think it over by yourself when you meet trouble. If you don't know how to deal with it, you may ask for help from your teachers or classmates.

   ②  If you cannot swim, don't get into the water. Cry for help if you drop in the water. Look after yourself all the time.

       ③   Don't play with matches or candles, because it may cause fire. If your house catches fire and you have to run away through smoke, move on your hands and knees with your head 30-60 centimeters above the floor. Remember there's cleaner and cooler air near the floor during the fire.

   ④  If you are hit by a car, remember the number of the car. And then call the police or your parents right away.

       ⑤   You must lock the door inside and close the window when you are at home by yourself. You should put the mobile phone near you. Never open the door when you hear someone knocking at (敲) the door because your parents have the keys and they know your phone number.

    It was time for the final exam at a university. The exam was two hours long.

    You're not going to have time to finish this. the professor(教授)said as he handed the student.

    "Yes, I will," the student replied.

    At the end of the exam, the professor asked all of the students to hand in their exam papers. .The professor put the papers in order and did not say anything to the student

    "I'm not going to accept your paper. It's late." the professor said.

    "Do you know who l am?" the student asked.

    "No, I don't, "the professor replied.

    "No, "the professor replied.
    "Good," the student replied, He then lifted all the sorted(整理好的) exam papers, put his in the middle, and walked out of the room.

    Once upon a time, there were three fish living in a pool. One evening, some fishermen (渔夫) passed by and saw the fish." This pool is full of fish!" they said excitedly. "We've never fished here before. " After saying that, they left.

    When the oldest of three fish heard this, he was worried. He said, Did you hear what the fishermen said? We must leave this pool quickly. " The second fish said. You're right. We must leave here. "There's nothing to worry about." he said "We have lived here all our live. No fisherman has ever come here. I'm not going anywhere. My luck will keep me safe."

    The second fish saw the fishermen coming early the next morning and left quickly. The oldest fish left the pool that evening.

The oldest fish saw the problem ahead (预先) and acted before it arrived. But the fish that depended on luck and did nothing died in the end.

    Traveling is one of the most important activities and people have been interested in it for many years. Modern traffic develops fast, so traveling to different places has become much easier and faster than before. Staying healthy while traveling can make your trip better. But do you know how to keep healthy during a trip? The following information may be useful to you.

Before leaving

    Wear comfortable shoes, a hat and sunglasses.

    Take some necessary medicine with you. They can be useful when you get sick or have other problems.

    Do some exercise for weeks or months before you leave if you plan to do lots of walking or climbing during your trip.

    Prepare proper food. Before you prepare the food, the first thing you need to think about is how long you will travel with the food. If you take a long trip, you should bring food such as bread, biscuits (饼干) and some fruit. They don't go bad quickly. People can bring meat, fish, eggs, milk and even salads and vegetables on a short trip.

While traveling

    Be sure not to eat dirty food or bad fruit.

    Have enough time to take a rest during your trip.

    Tap water (自来水) is not safe, so drink bottled water (瓶装水) and always clean the cover of the bottle.

    Keep food in good condition. If you take hot food, you should try to keep it hot. For example, you can put it in heavy towels. If you need to keep cold food cold, you can put cold food in a box with ice. When you arrive, put cold food in the fridge (冰箱). Remember: If you travel with food, keep hot food hot and cold food cold.

    Once upon a time there was a poor woodcutter who worked very hard from morning till night. He had a son and his name was Herman. The old man saved some money and sent his son to university.

    But the money that the father gave his son was all used up after two years and Her-man had to come back home. The old man had no more money. Herman said he would stay and work with his father,
