They are Song Yingxing who was born in 1587 Ming Dynasty and Yuan Longping who was born in 1930. Song Yingxing is the author of Tiangong Kaiwu, an encyclopedia（百科全书）of Chinese technology in the seventeenth century. When he was young, he dreamed to grow a new type of rice to make Chinese have enough food to eat. Until 1973, another Chinese scientist Yuan Longping made their dream come true.

Yuan Longping graduated from the Southwest Agricultural（农业）University in 1953. He came up with an idea for a hybrid rice in the 1960s. Since then, he has devoted himself to the research and development of new varieties（品种）. In 1973 Yuan Longping, together with other people, succeeded in the development of hybrid rice.
