One day an old man goes for a walk in a park in Washington. He is tired, so he sits down on a bench(长凳). A young person is standing on the other side of the pond(池塘). "My son needs a new shirt," says Jim's mother.

"What is his size?" asks the salesman.

"OK," says the salesman.

Jim tries on many shirts. But he doesn't like any of them. Some are too big, and some are too small. Then he finds one. It is the right size.

"That one looks very smart and it is the right size," says Jim's mother.

"No, Mum," says Jim. "It is too heavy."

Finally Jim chooses one. It isn't too heavy or too light. He likes the colour very much, but his mother thinks it is too expensive. Poor Jim! He doesn't get a new shirt at last.

Guo Xiaowen is a middle school student from Tianjin. She is sixteen now and she wants to be a fashion designer. Her dream is to see her designs on big fashion shows.

Guo likes making clothes for herself and her parents. She studies hard at school, because she wants to learn design at an Europe's top fashion school in Milan, Italy. When you go shopping and want to buy some clothes, first you should think about which kind of clothes you really need. Then look at the labels that are inside the new clothes. They tell you how to take care of the clothes. The label for a shirt may tell you to wash it in warm water. A sweater label may tell you to wash it in cold water. The label on a coat may say "dry clean(干洗) only". If you do as the directions(指令) say on the label, you can keep your clothes well for a long time.

Many clothes today must be dry⁃cleaned. Dry⁃cleaning isn't cheap. When buying new clothes, you should check if they need to be dry⁃cleaned. You can save money if you buy clothes that can be washed in the water or that are well⁃made. Well⁃made clothes will look good even after you wash them many times.

Clothes that cost more money don't always mean(意味着) they are better made. They may not fit you either. On the other hand, cheap clothes may sometimes look better and fit you well.

Jack wants to climb mountains with his friends. They need to buy some things. They come to a supermarket. Jack wants to buy a pair of blue sports shoes. It's $35. "I have $50. It's enough," Jack thinks.

Dale wants to buy a hat. The white hat is nice and it's only $12, but it is small for him.

"What about this black one? It's $18, " David says to Dale. "Great! I'll take it," Dale says.
