五、阅读理解(共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分)

  • 10. 阅读理解

Blowing our nose, burping(打饱嗝) after dinner and pooping(排便)... Unpleasant as they are, these things, according to Live Science, make up" the impolite science of the human body". Here, we take a look at the reasons why humans must be" impolite" to survive.

    Snot(鼻涕)

Snot's job is to protect our body from harmful viruses. Dust mites(尘螨), ash, or sand fill the air we breathe. If allowed to enter our body, these things are likely to make us sick. But thankfully, snot stops these things.

Snot can tell us whether we're healthy or not, according to its appearance. When it's clear and colorless, that's a sign of good health. If it turns green or yellow, however, it could be a sign that our body is being attacked by a virus.

    Gas

From drinking fizzy(起泡的) drinks to eating food, we often breathe in gases that end up in our stomach. Naturally, if we take in too much gas, we may suffer from pain and cramps(痉挛). Burping is an effective way to get these gases out of our stomach.

Occasional(偶尔的) burping benefits our body. However, burping too much isn't a good sign. That's because it may suggest that we're suffering from a digestive disorder(消化功能紊乱).

    Poop

Pooping is an extremely important function of the body. Once our body has taken everything it needs from the food we eat, it leaves our body as poop. Checking your poop after you go to the bathroom is a good way to tell whether you are healthy or not.

(1)、What can we infer from the first paragraph?
A、It is impolite to research the human body. B、Science can explain our impolite bodily functions. C、It is unpleasant to hear the noises our bodies make. D、It is hard for us to behave politely.
(2)、According to the passage, we can learn that ________________.
A、clear or green snot means you're in good health B、if you burp too much, you must have a serious stomachache C、all the food we eat turns into poop finally D、snot, burping and pooping are unpleasant, but they are important to survive
(3)、The passage is probably taken from ______________.
A、a travel magazine B、an education website   C、a health newspaper D、a science textbook

①Facial recognition technology is widely used today. For example, police use it to search for bad guys. It's also used to unlock phones or doors. Now, a similar technology, known as facial detection(探测), is entering a new field: the business of advertising.

②Such systems are going through tests in a small number of stores. One facial detection system can judge a person's" happiness" or" fear" level. That helps businesses see how people feel as they look at products or advertisements in the store. Another system can detect whether someone is wearing eyeglasses. If so, stores can send advertisements for new glasses to him.

③Facial detection technology is also placed inside some large advertising boards. Cameras in those boards can detect information like people's ages and five levels of feelings——from" very happy" to" very unhappy".

④Supporters of the technology say it could improve buyers' experience by showing products they might like or by offering them products at lower prices.

⑤Some are against the idea of using such systems. Pam Dixon, the head of a privacy(隐私)group, is one of them. She thinks     ▲   . For example, a business could raise the price of a product according to a person's age and feelings.

    A、People's weight. B、People's feelings. C、People's height. D、People's jobs.
(2)、Which of the following sentences can be put in the ________?
A、nobody likes to have their feelings collected B、it is impossible to protect people's privacy C、the technology may cause something unfair D、businesses may use them to have more customers

Four hundred million dollars (about 2. 6 billion yuan). That's the value of the goods that flow through the Suez Canal (苏伊士运河) every hour, according to CNBC. The canal is one of the most important parts of the global shipping network that all of us depend on. However, it is also fragile (脆弱的).

The ship Ever Given got stuck in the canal on March 23 because of high winds, according to the ship's technical manager Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement. It was stuck there for six days until finally being freed on March 29. But during that short time, the ship blocked the canal, leaving at least 422 ships unable to pass. This accident showed us just how big of a role the canal plays in global trade.

The canal, which first opened in 1869, connects the Mediterranean and Red seas. It creates a shorter route between Europe and the Indian and western Pacific oceans. By using the canal, shipping companies can move goods between Europe and Asia without having to sail around Africa, reducing sea voyage(航程) distances by about 7,000 km, according to Velta, a freight (货源) management company. This allows us to move goods faster and cheaper than shipping by air.

All kinds of goods get shipped through the canal every day. About seven percent of the world's oil is carried through the canal, as well as 30 percent of the world's total shipping container freight (集装箱货运). Electronics, furniture, clothing, and auto parts are just a few of the goods that the canal handles. Even basic daily goods like toilet paper and coffee pass through the canal, according to USA Today. If the canal is blocked for a long time, there might be shortages of these goods, which could cause their prices to go up.

(2)、Which of the following statements describes the Suez Canal correctly?

(3)、How do shipping companies benefit from using the canal?

    a. They can move goods with larger ships.

    b. They can move goods faster.

    c. It shortens the voyage distance between Europe and Asia.

Huck is my name, Huckleberry Finn. The story started when my best friend, Tom Sawyer, and I found $12,000 in a cave. That money made us rich. We got $6,000 each. Judge Thatcher, an important man in St. Petersburg, put it in the bank, and now we get a dollar a day as interest.

Then a kind old lady called Widow(寡妇) Douglas invited me to live with her because I haven't got a family or a home. My mother died a long time ago, then my dad, Pap, disappeared. He was a violent(狂暴的) man, especially when he drank a lot, which was most of the time, and he often beat me. I was scared of him. I didn't go to school like the other boys of my age. I lived on the streets and in the woods.

My life changed after I lived with the widow. She gave me a bed to sleep in and bought new clothes for me. She read stories to me and taught me how to eat at a table. But then her sister Miss Watson arrived. She brought her black slave(奴隶) Jim with her. I liked Jim but I didn't like Miss Watson very much. She often shouted at me.

Widow Douglas sent me to school every day. I didn't like going there at first because learning was very difficult. But when I could read and write a bit, I didn't mind going.

The months passed and winter came. The weather got cold. One morning I woke up and there was snow on the ground. On my way to school, I saw some footprints outside the widow's house. There was a cross on the heel(脚后跟) of the left one. My heart jumped. Only one person wore boots with a cross on the left heel! Pap!

"He's heard about my money," I thought." And he wants it!"

That night I went to see Jim. Jim had a magic ball made of animal hair. There was a spirit inside the ball that could answer people's questions about the future.

A few weeks ago, my school's ninth grade class went on a trip to the Black Country in England to learn about geography and history.

Many believe the name comes from the 1840s because of the soot(煤烟) put out by factories at that time. There is also a 10-meter-thick coal seam(煤层) close to the ground's surface in Black Country.

The aim of this trip was to prepare us for a geography project about rivers. We also learned more about the history of England during the Industrial Revolution(工业革命).

On the first day of our trip, we went to Carding Mill Valley near Birmingham and learned about the changes that can happen to a river as it flows downstream. Our teacher had given us a few lessons on how rivers work before the trip, so we were well-prepared for the project we had to do.

The next day, we went to the famous Black Country Museum where we learned about coal mining(开矿;采矿) and the lives of the people who lived during the Industrial Revolution. A highlight of the day was when we visited a coal mine and watched a skilled craftsman(工匠) make iron chain links.

The trip was truly satisfying. I like how we got the opportunity to experience what we learned in class and practice it in real life. It was a useful way to get us more interested in what we were learning about. It also showed us the importance of the journey while learning something new.

A class to the Black Country

    Black Country got its name

It is believed that it got its name from the soot coming from factories at that time.

    Why they went there

To get them prepared for a geography project about rivers.

    Which places they visited

    Day 1: Carding Mill Valley

Day 2: and a coal mine

    What they learned

    How rivers work;

    that can happen to a river as it flows downstream;

    Knowledge about coal mining;

What people's lives were like during the Industrial Revolution.

What the writer thinks about the experience

It helps us practice what we have learned in real life.

It made us become more interested in what we were learning about

It showed that the journey is when we are learning new things.
