Tom was a college student. He often made excuses not to attend classes. Also, he spent much of his free timecomputer games. He never went to the library.

How time flew! At the end of the term, there wasimportant event that he was afraid of--the final exam. "What should I do?" Tom walked up and down in the room the day before the exam. He was. Suddenly heof an idea.

The next morning. Tom went into the exam room very early. He found a young manlooked so confident and took a seat next to him. "Hey!" Tom greeted. "What?" the young man asked.

"Can you do me a favor?" Tom begged(恳求)."Please let meyour paper during the exam. I have to depend on you! " When hearing his words, the young man just smiled but said.

When the bell rang, the young manimmediately and came to the front, saying, "It is time for the final exam! Now I will hand out the papers to all of you and collect them an hour."

Tom sat there with his mouth wide open.

The word "day" has two meanings. When we talk about the number of days in a year, we are using "day" to mean 24 hours. But when we talk about day and night, we are using "day" to mean the time between sunrise and sunset. Because the earth looks like a ball, the sun can shine on only half of it at a time. Always one half of the earth is having day and the other half night. At the equator day and night are sometimes the same length. They are each twelve hours long. The sun rises at 6 o'clock in the morning and sets at 6 o'clock in the evening. For six months the North Pole(北极点)is tilted(倾斜的）toward the sun. In those months the Northern Hemisphere gets more hours of sunlight than the Southern Hemisphere. Days are longer than nights. South of the equator nights are longer than days. For the other six months the North Pole is tilted away from the sun. Then the Southern Hemisphere gets more sunlight. Days are longer than nights. North of the equator nights are longer than days. Winter is the season of long nights. Summer is the season of long days.

Some people remember the things by writing notes to themselves. Then they leave the notes in obvious(明显的)places, such as on the table, on the floor or in the middle of the living room. I don't think I like to write notes to myself. Most of the time I lose them or forget to look at them until it's too late. I would rather use an alarm clock to tell me what I should do. I have ten alarm clocks in my house. They could tell me about things. For example, if I have to make a telephone call at a certain time, I'll set an alarm clock to go off a few minutes early and put the clock by the telephone. Or if I want to watch a certain television programme, I'll set an alarm clock at the right time and put the clock on top of the TV set, 1 can remember almost anything if I use my clocks. However, sometimes an alarm clock goes off and I don't know what it means. I always remember setting it, but not why I set it. If the clock is by the telephone, I know I may have set it to tell me to call someone, but I can't be sure. I might have set it to tell myself that somebody is to call me at a certain time.

Today I woke up early. While I was reading, I was listening to relaxing music on my phone.

When I realized that one of the songs sounded like a Chinese melody(旋律), I closed my eyes. I found myself in the bamboo field. Then l saw a big Chinese palace. I saw a bell on the door of each room. When the wind blew, the bells moved and made a relaxing sound.

I turned my head and saw a lot of beautiful flowers on the trees. All those looked like a pink carpet(地毯). Suddenly, l heard a bird singing. I looked for it everywhere and finally I saw it in one of the trees. The bird had wonderful colorful feathers (羽毛) such as deep green, cherry red, bright yellow, black and white. I was amazed by everything here. "l wish to stay here for the rest of my life," I said to myself.

That's why I like listening to music. It can take me to another world.

Sometimes it may seem difficult to improve our health. If so, the following health habits may help you.

   ①    Research shows that if you eat a meal in the morning you may not become too fat or cat too much during lunch. Eating breakfast can help people feel better through the day.

   ②    Poor sleep can influence our memory and learning. It can also cause traffic accidents! Studies show that people who don't get enough sleep seem to get into more accidents. So stay safe and get enough sleep!

   ③    Walking is an easy way to exercise. You'd better meet friends for a walk, not for a meal. As you walk, you will see the beautiful world around you. Once you try, you will find that addling a walk into your daily life is very easy.

   ④    Social groups can provide support. They might include sport teams, art or music groups. The people in the group can offer advice and can help each other in difficult times. Also, being in a group keeps your mind busy. An active mind is a healthy mind!

   ⑤    A hobby could be running, reading or making something with your hands. Hobbies help people to relax and rest. Hobbies bring us joy as well.

Children's Games in Ancient China

During ancient times, children didn't have much to enjoy. However, they came up with interesting games to play in their childhood.

Kicking stone balls

During the Qing Dynasty, kicking a stone ball around was a popular game in the northern part of China, and it was often played in winter to keep warm.

Playing hide-and-seek

Hide-and-seek is a traditional game for children, popular around the nation. There are two ways to play: cover a child's eyes and then other kids run around to tease(戏弄)him, or more usually, others hide and one child must try to find them.

Flying kites

Kites have quite a long history. The earliest kites were made of wood, instead of paper. The three most famous kites are the Beijing kite, the Tianjin kite and the Wei-fang kite. Each has its own feature. For example, the bird-shaped kite with long wings is a special kind of the Beijing kite.

Watching shadow plays(皮影戏)

The closest thing to watching a film in ancient times was going to see a shadow play. The artists control puppets (木偶) behind the screen and tell stories to the music.
