    B. Remember your pet

    C. What makes a pet die?

    D. A new animal for you

    E. Why am I feeling like this?

My pet died-how can I feel better?

Every day when Elena came home from school, her cat Tomaso would run to great her. One day, Elena came home and her cat wasn't there. Her mom said that Tomaso had died.

        Who has pets?

Millions of people across the world own pets. Maybe you have a pet, and maybe some of your friends do, too. A pet can be a special friend. It can play with you or just be with you when you don't feel like talking.

Unluckily, pets can't stay with us forever. Like all living things, they will die at some point. Sometimes a pet dies from old age. Sometimes a pet dies from an accident. Sometimes a pet gets too sick to live.

It's sad when a pet dies. You may feel lonely because your pet was your friend. To some kids, it may seem like no one understands what they are feeling. Someone said to Elena," You can get another cat. " But Elena knew she'd never have another cat just like Tomaso.

Elena decided to talk with her parents. Elena's parents told her about the pets they used to have and how it was difficult to say goodbye. At first, it can be hard to talk about the pet you're missing. You might want to forget about everything instead. But talking with someone you love is the best way to help you start to feel better.

When a pet dies, you and your family may want to find special ways to remember your pet. It can be a big help to share a sad thing with people you love. You might have a ceremony(仪式)for your pet or just share memories of fun times you had together. You might want to tell stories. You could write a poem, too. That's what Elena did.

⑵If you are going to stay in someone's house, don't arrive empty-handed. Bring a small present if you are staying for a short time, a bigger one for longer periods. Expensive chocolate works in most situations.

⑶To shake hands or to kiss? Wait to see what your host does.

⑷Always accept it when offered, whether it looks terrible or delicious. Try to cat all of it and say it tastes good. Most people are proud of their cooking even if they shouldn't be. Don't hurt their feelings.

⑸The most important tip for being a good guest is to know when to say goodbye. The secret is to leave while the host is still enjoying your company and wants you to stay longer.

A little octopus(章鱼) called Oliver lived in the deep sea. He felt bored and upset. He sat on the floor watching pretty fish swimming in and out of rocks. "How happy they are! Why am I so different?" Oliver said to himself sadly.

"You are an octopus, Oliver.  That's special." The sweet voice of Cherub, a beautiful purple angelfish(神仙鱼), always made Oliver feel better. Oliver looked up at the purple angelfish and smiled. Cherub suggested, "Let's play hide-and-seek. They were having so much fun that they didn't realize they had swum far from home. Suddenly, Cherub saw a large shark swimming above them. "It was Big White... the biggest, scariest shark in the sea," she shouted to Oliver. Cherub looked at Big -White hopelessly. (A)An idea came to Oliver. He quickly sprayed(喷射) a very dark cloud of black water to the shark's eyes. Then Oliver and Cherub escaped and got home safely.

  • 8. 下面文章中有五段话需要添加小标题。请从以下选项(A一F)中选出符合各段意思的小标题。选项中有一项是多余选项。

    A. Cats can bring illness.

    B. Keeping a cat is good for you.

    C. You should let your cat inside.

    D. Going outside is bad for cats, too.

    E. The birds are fewer and fewer in America.

    F. Cats kill many birds and small animals every year.

Many kinds of birds live in the United States, but the number of the birds is becoming smaller every year. One of the leading reasons is the growing number of pet cats. By keeping your pet cats in your home, you can help give birds a better possible chance to live.

Of the 90 million pet cats in this country, about two-thirds are allowed to go outside. It is said that these cats kill hundreds of millions of birds each year, as well as billions of small animals such as rabbits and field mice.

They can also bring illness to the animals that live in people's yard, and further weakening the health of the natural populations.

Allowing pet cats to go outside is not just bad for birds and wildlife,it's also bad for the cats themselves. Outdoor cats can get sick very easily. They are in danger from traffic and attacks(攻击)from other animals. In fact, outdoor cats usually don't live past the age of five, while indoor cats often live to be 17 or older.

Keep your pet cat inside! If you raise a young cat,it's your duty to let it play inside.
