    Jim is a middle school student. School always starts at ten past eight. Jim usually gets up early in the morning and goes to school quickly. So Jim is never late for school.

    One Monday morning, it is half past seven, but Jim doesn't get up. His mother comes into his room and asks him to get up. But he is still in his dream (梦) — he gets up at eight, then he takes a shower and brushes his teeth. At a quarter past eight, he eats a big hamburger for breakfast. Then he cleans his room. After that he runs to school to do his homework …….

    "Dear Jim! It's time to get up. Come on! You are late for school!" Mom says.

    "OK, Mom. I must go now!" Jim says. Then he runs to school. He gets to school at half past eight.

    Of course, he is late for school. After he ells it to his classmate Tony, Tony thinks it's really funny.

    One day, there was a blind man called John sitting on the bench with a hat by his feet and a sign that read, "I am blind. Please help me."

    A creative publicist(广告员) named Tom was walking by the blind man and stopped to see that the man only had a few coins in his hat. He put a few of his own coins in the hat. Without asking for permission, he took the sign, turned it around and wrote a new message. Then he put the sign by the feet of the blind man, and left.

    Later that afternoon the publicist returned to the blind man and noticed that his hat was almost full of bills and coins. The blind man recognized(认出) his footsteps and asked if it was he who had changed his sign. He also wanted to know what the man wrote on it.

    The publicist said, "I just wrote the message a little differently." He smiled and went on his way.

    The new sign read, "Spring has come, but I can't see anything."

    A teacher asks his students to write about their dreams. One boy writes seven pages. He wants his own farm and a large house on it. But his teacher tells him, "You are daydreaming. Do it again." Several days later the boy hands in the same article, saying, "I don't want to give up my dream even if you fail me." Years later, he makes his dream come true. One day, the same teacher takes some students to the boy's farm for camping. Seeing the big farm, the teacher feels sorry, "I once told you not to daydream. Luckily, you never gave up."

    Dogs are our friends. Many people like them. Look at these two nice dogs.

    The first dog's name is Estrella. She is from Peru. She doesn't have front (前面的)legs, but she is happy. She can move like a kangaroo(袋鼠). She lives in an animal shelter(收容所). It's only 2 kilometers from a zoo. Estrella is a big star in the shelter. People like the dog. Many people want to help her. They go to the shelter to see her and bring her money(钱). With the money, Estrella and other animals in the shelter can have a good life.

    The second dog is Freddy. He is from the UK. He is five years old. But he is very big. When he stands on his back legs, he is over 2m tall. Freddy lives with his sister. Their favourite food is beef(牛肉). They need lots of money for good every year.

    I am a little lion. My name is Nancy. I have a big head. I'm yellow. But my favorite colour is green. I like living in the forest. I like to eat little animals. But I live in the zoo now. I don't like the zoo. I get up in the cage（笼子） in the morning. I have breakfast, lunch and dinner in the cage. I go to bed in the cage in the evening, too. People watch me every day. Some boys hit（打） me with stones（石头）. I don't like them. They are not my friends. I can't go out. I want to go back to my friends in the forest. I want to live with them.

    Tom Hunt studies Chinese in Hangzhou. His school day in London is different from school day in China. School starts at nine o'clock. He gets up at 7:00 a. m. on weekdays. He goes to school by underground（地铁）. It takes about forty-five minutes. He has lunch at school. Classes are over at 3:15 p. m. It is early. So he stays at school and plays games with his friends. He is in the basketball team. They practice on Mondays and Wednesdays. They have a match on Friday afternoon.

    On Saturday morning he gets up late. Then he helps his parents tidy the garden. In the evening，he often goes to a film or to a club. On Sunday he has a good rest and of course, he does his homework.
