    Mick Polly, an owner of a toy store, lives with his teenage daughter Carolina in Kentucky. He is known as the Bike Man. Over the past five years, Mick has built hundreds of bikes for needy kids.

    One day in 2012, a 13-year-old boy with a broken bike walked by Mick's house. "I was working in my garage(车库); and he asked if I could fix it," says Mick, now 53.

    The boy's bike had a broken wheel. Mick sent a post(帖子) on Facebook, asking his friends if they had the needed part. One friend saw the post and gave away two used bikes. Mick took parts from each to build a new set of wheels for the boy.

    Soon after, Mick repaired a bike for the boy's brother and fixed one for his sister. Word spread, and during the year, he had fixed up lots of bikes for local kids whose parents were not able to afford new ones.

    "People are throwing away bikes day and night," says Mick.

    Mick puts the bikes and bike parts in his garage. "I take off the good tires or the handlebars or the seats and use them," he says.

    Up to now, the bike man has repaired hundreds of bikes and given away nearly 700 newly repaired bikes. They're free, but the kids must agree on two things: They have to learn how to put waste things to good use and they have to try their best to study in school.

    If a kid's grades are low, Mick requires a teacher's note "saying that you're doing your best". Mick also hopes the bikes will get kids off the sofa. "When I was growing up, we all rode our bikes," he says. "Hopefully these kids can get some exercise."

    It's 10 am on a school day morning in Shanghai and students are standing in lines on the playground, doing their morning exercises. As a teacher at the front calls out, "Yi, er, san, si..." the students extend their arms, then bring them to their chests; bend their knees, then straighten up. Many of the students seem bored.

These "aunties" dance on public squares each evening, often driving neighbours crazy with their loud music. But it is good exercise and they are having fun. So, why shouldn't students be allowed to follow their example?

    Well, on the Internet, most posters said dancing in the primary school in Xiangyang looked funny. One poster said that calisthenics were old-fashioned and that "the organized movements leave no room for personal freedom".

    Fitness is essential for young people. Too much study and too much computer time are making many young Chinese fat and unfit, so it's important that they become more active. And being active is the key, even if that means doing away with calisthenics and, instead, dancing like damas.

In no time the bear camp up to him, sniffed(用鼻子吸气) at him. Quickwit did not dare to move; and the bear, thinking him dead, went off into the wood again, leaving him quite unharmed!

    When Braggart saw that the danger was over, he came down from the tree and tried to pass off the matter with a joke. "Well, my friend Quickwit," he said, "what did the bear say to you when he put his mouth dose to your ear?"

    "He told me," replied Quickwit, "never again to trust a man who talks big like you!"

    The Lee Family was asleep in bed when the smoke alarm outside their bedroom went off. Mr. Lee knew something was wrong. He ran downstairs and was surprised to see that the kitchen was full of smoke. Firstly, he closed the kitchen door to keep the other members of the family were safe. They each took a coat quickly from the living room, came downstairs and ran outside. Ala, their pet dog, followed closely behind. They chose a safe place in the yard. Mr. Lee told his son, "Never go back inside!"

I think the fire was caused by my carelessness. When I boiled the milk for our bedtime drink, I may have forgotten to turn off the gas ring. Something must have fallen onto it and caught fire.

    During the past one hundred years, there have been many inventions. Most of them make our life much  (容易) and more interesting. TV is one of them. Many people enjoy watching TV for  (乐趣). Some even believe that TV has  (使得) their children smarter because there are all kinds of information on it such as news,  (科学),sports, music and language. Children can learn a lot from TV in a short time without going out. Many parents are happy to know this because they  (自己) are too busy to spend time with their children.

    But we have found that more and more children today have problems  (阅读), thinking and concentrating even though they have watched a lot of TV. In fact, getting much information doesn't  (意味着) real learning.
