    Then, on Christmas Eve (前夕), our family has all the traditional American foods: turkey, sweet potatoes, vegetables, nuts, pies, and other good dishes. On this very night, there is a mysterious (神秘的) story, named Santa Claus, will fly from the North Pole and give presents to the children under the Christmas tree. However, Santa only gives presents to those who have behaved well the whole year. So children across America try to do one last good deed before the night by baking (烘烤) Santa some cookies, trying to ask him for presents. This is why Santa is so fat!

    That night, children are often excited, hope to find presents. The next day, they rushed out of bed very early. Then, the whole family opens presents and spends the whole day relaxing.

    A giant panda from the Beijing Zoo has been saved by a transfusion of blood from two black bears. But it's still under special care, according to the Beijing Zoo.

Yong Liang, two years old, is the first giant panda raised from birth in the zoo. Last month zoo keepers found the panda was suffering from serious anaemia (贫血症), calling for urgent（紧急的）blood transfusion.

    The best way, according to the zoo's experts, to save Yong Liang from anemia would have been to transfuse blood from another panda. But it was the breeding (reproducing)(繁殖) season for giant pandas, making such a transfusion very difficult.

    But the experts found that there exists（存在）a close consanguinity（血缘）between giant pandas and black bears, and so they decided to try to take blood from black bears in the zoo and transfuse it to Yong Liang.

    With the help of hospitals and the Beijing Blood Donor Station, they made an experiment which proved that the red blood cells（细胞）in the blood of black bears can be used.

    On the afternoon of February 15th, the first red blood cell transfusion was given to the giant panda, from 600 ml of black bear blood. Immediately the young panda started to recover.

    It was just three degrees above zero. "That's cold", thought Jane as she got ready to deliver(送)her morning papers . Jane had 50 customers(顾客),and on cold mornings when she couldn't ride her bicycle, it took her more than an hour to make her rounds.

    As she collected her papers and put them into a big canvas(帆布)bag, Jane regretted(后悔)that she hadn't finished her math homework the night before. There was still time. She would hurry with the papers and finish the math before breakfast.

    Less than an hour later Jane nearly finished. She had only five customers to go. She could then go home to finish her math homework while her Mom cooked breakfast. As she rounded the corner, she saw a car in the middle of the street. It was Mr Zimmerman, the elderly man who walked with a walking stick. His car was out of gas(汽油).

    "I'd like to help Mr Zimmerman," thought Jane, "but if I do, I won't have time to do my homework." She hated to think what Mr Robert would say if she didn't finish papers.

    "It's his own fault(错误)for running out of gas," Jane talked to herself. "The station is only a half mile down the street. Surely Mr Zimmerman can walk that far, even on a cold morning like this...can't he?" As she walked down the street, Jane still wondered what to do.

    Without proper planning, tourism(旅游业) can cause problem. For example, too many tourists can make public places crowded, which are also enjoyed by the local people. If tourists cause too much traffic, the local people will feel unhappy. They begin to dislike tourists and treat them impolitely. But they forget how much tourism can help the local economy(经济). It is important to think about how tourism affects the local people. The local customs and beauty should be kept to attract the tourists by the local government. The local government should also care about the health and happiness of local people when developing tourism.

     Too much tourism can he a problem. If tourism grows too quickly, people can leave other jobs to work in the tourism industry because they can make more money there. As a result, other parts of the local economy can become worse.

    On the other hand, if there is not enough tourism, people can lose jobs, and businesses can also lose money. It coats much money to build large hotels, airports, first­class roads, and other support facilities(设施) needed by tourist attractions. For example, each room of the first­class tourism hotel usually costs about 50 thousand dollars. If the rooms of the hotel aren't used most of the time, the owner of the hotel will lose money.

    Building a hotel is just a beginning. There must be many support facilities as well, including roads to get to the hotel, electricity and so on. All of these support facilities cost money. If these facilities are not used because there are not enough tourists, jobs and money are lost.

How to beat sadness

    We all have days when we are down, tired and unhappy. That's OK. You need days like this, or how would you know you are happy？ You'll enjoy your good days even more when you have a few bad days. Even if sadness is a part of life, Let's try to make it small. Here are a few simple ways to help you fell better when you are feeling sad.

1）Stand up straight and this helps your energy flow(流动).When your energy is flowing freely, you can flow too.

2）Smile! It's easy to do and have good results. This way can not only leave you in a good mood(情绪)but also bring others a good mood.

3）Listen to music. It can be your favourite music. some kinds of music work better than others, so try and find out what kind of music works the best for you.

4） Take some “me” time. You can find pleasure in reading a book, watching a sunrise or having a hot bath, or something like that.

5） Exercise. Even something as simple as taking a walk will get your blood flowing. It is a great way to clear your mind of anything that makes you sad.

    These ways will cheer you up when you are down, but don't just use them when you are sad. Try and practice them every day to make them a habit. You will be surprised to learn that these simple ways will keep your sadness away. But if you are in a deep depression(沮丧)，go to see a doctor.
