Travelling can be a fun way to gain life experiences, but what if you're a student and don't have enough money for a trip? Don't worry. Here are some useful tips.

Save: This probably is the most important preparation for travelling. Cut expenses (花费) to fatten your wallet so you'll have more choices about where to go and how to get there.

Plan ahead: Don't wait until the last minute to plan your trip. Giving yourself several months to get ready can mean security and savings.

Do your homework: No matter where you go, research the places you will visit. Decide what to see. Travel books will provide information on the cheapest hotels and restaurants.

Plan sensibly: Write down how much you expect to spend for food and hotels. Stick to (坚持) your plan or you may not have enough money to cover everything.

Travel in groups: Find someone who is interested in visiting the same places. By travelling with others you can share costs and experiences.

Work as you go: Look for work in places you visit if you need more money to support your trip.

Go off the beaten path: Tourist cities may be expensive. You may want to rethink about your trip and go to a less-known area. Smaller towns can have many interesting activities and sights.

Pack necessary things: The most important things to take are not always clothes. Remember to take along medicine in case you get sick and snacks in case you cannot find a cheap restaurant.

By planning sensibly, even students can enjoy their travel. Your travel experiences will be remembered for a lifetime.

In the US, people prefer waiting for a table to sitting with people they don't know. This means a hostess may not seat a small group until a small table is available, even if a large one is. If you are sitting at a table with people you don't know, it is impolite to light up a cigarette without asking if it will disturb them.

At American restaurants and coffee shops you are usually served tap water before you order. You may find the bread and butter is free, and if you order coffee, you may get a free refill.

Most cities and towns have no rules about opening and closing time for stores or restaurants, though they usually do make rules for bars. Especially in large cities, stores may be open 24 hours a day.

Serving in restaurants is often large, too large for many people. If you can't finish your meal but would like to enjoy the food later, ask your waitress or waiter for a "doggie bag". It may have a picture of a dog on it, but everybody knows you're taking the food for yourself.

Supper and dinner are both words for the evening meal. Some people have "Sunday dinner". This is an especially big noon meal.

Tips are not usually added to the check. They are not included in the price of the meal, either. A tip of about 15% is expected and you should leave it on the table when you leave. In some restaurants, a check is brought on a plate and you put your money there. Then the waiter or waitress brings you your change.

    (1)、Which statement is true?
A、American people like sitting with people they don't know. B、Hostess always seats a small group at a large table. C、American people never sit with people they don't know. D、American people would not light a cigarette if the people who sit at the same table mind their smoking.
(2)、What do American people always do when servings are too large for them?
A、They take the food home with a doggie bag for their dogs. B、They leave the food on the table and go away. C、They take the food home with a doggie bag and enjoy the food later. D、They ask the waitress or waiter to keep the food for them.
(3)、What can you learn about "tips" according to the passage?
A、Customers often add tips to their check. B、Tips are supposed to be left on the table when customers leave. C、People don't need to pay tips. D、The price of the meal usually includes the tip.

If you want to learn a language and become fluent in it, you really need to start as early in life as possible, because the older you get, the harder it can be to get your tongue round new words and sounds. However, that is not a reason to put off learning a language later in life, because there are still many advantages to it.

As you get older, it can become more and more tempting to stick to things you are most familiar with. However, giving yourself something new to do can help to keep your brain active, and the more active your brain is, the younger you will feel.

We all need new challenges every now and again. It makes life interesting. Don't set your expectations too high—you aren't going to become fluent in a couple of months, for example. Instead, set yourself short-term goals—to finish a text-book or to practice your skills on a language speaker. The challenge will provide you with a renewed energy for life.

Many people, especially when they are older, put off going overseas because they are worried about communicating with the local people. However, once you start to learn a language, you will have much more confidence to travel in countries where the language is spoken. Once you are able to buy things, ask directions and have free conversations, you will find traveling much more enjoyable.

One of the best reasons for learning a language later in life is simply because you can. When younger, you probably had little spare time. Now, you probably have more time in hand because your family has grown up and you may even have retired. There are so many tools you can use to learn languages these days (the television and Internet are two obvious ones), so you may not even have to pay.

(1)、It is commonly believed that when a person is old, ________.
A、he will stop learning B、he is slow in thought C、he can hardly learn anything new D、he has got no time to do anything
(2)、The author suggests that an old person ________.
A、do the things he is familiar with B、set a high goal for later life C、take up something new D、save his brain for future
(3)、The reason that old men can learn a foreign language is that ________.
A、they are planning to travel abroad alone B、they have more time than the young C、they have been left behind by families D、they have a better memory
(4)、Which would be the best title for the passage?
A、Learn a Language Later in Life B、Gain Advantages in Later Life C、Build up Confidence When Old D、Older People to Meet Challenges

From the moment you open your eyes in the morning, you can feel sweat (汗水) running down your body, even if you're barely moving at all. That's what most people in China felt like this summer. In fact, the entire northern hemisphere (半球) saw high temperatures in July. The Arctic Circle (北极圈) was no exception (例外). Temperatures in the city of Norilsk, which is in the Arctic Circle, reached a record high of 32℃, The Atlantic reported. Temperatures there are usually just 10℃ at this time of the year.

The heat wave in the Arctic is mainly a long-term result of global warming, according to the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences. In fact, while the whole world is getting warmer, the Arctic is warming twice as fast as the rest of the planet. This is called the polar amplification effect (极地放大效应).

The most direct impact (影响) of Arctic warming is the melting of Arctic ice. According to NASA, Arctic sea ice is now disappearing at a rate of 13.2 percent every 10 years. NASA said that if this continues, the Arctic will have no ice by the year 2040. This has put some Arctic animals, like polar bears, in danger. The ice that the bears live on has shrunk (缩小), the Toronto Star reported.

Melting ice can also cause sea levels to rise in the long term. Since 1993, sea levels have risen at a rate of 3.2 cm every 10 years, the Guardian reported. Some countries, such as Tuvalu (图瓦卢) in the South Pacific Ocean and Maldives (马尔代夫) in the Indian Ocean, are at risk of disappearing into the sea.

A、Some countries in the ocean will disappear in 10 years. B、China is the hottest in the northern hemisphere this summer. C、The temperatures in Norilsk used to be lower than this summer. D、The world gets warmer because of the heat wave in the Arctic.
(2)、What does the underlined word "this" in the third paragraph refer to?
A、The heat wave in the Arctic. B、The result of global warming. C、Getting warmer in the world. D、The Arctic getting warm faster.
(3)、What may be the result of the melting of Arctic ice?
A、The polar will become dangerous. B、Sea levels rise in the long term. C、There will be an end of water shortage. D、There will be no ice in the world by 2040.

"Stop the world, I want to get off!" This popular expression refers to a feeling of panic, or stress, that makes people want to stop whatever they are doing, try to relax, and become calm again. Stress is one of the most common causes of health problems in modern life. Too much stress results in physical, emotional, and mental health problems.

There are numerous physical effects of stress. Stress can affect the heart. It can increase the pulse rate, make the heart miss beats, and can cause high blood pressure. Stress can affect the respiratory (呼吸的) system. It can lead to asthma and cause a person to breathe too fast, resulting in a loss of important carbon dioxide. Stress can affect the stomach. It can cause stomachaches and problems of digesting food. These are only a few examples of the wide range of illnesses and symptoms resulting from stress.

Emotions are also easily affected by stress. People suffering from stress often feel anxious. They may have panic attacks and feel tired all the time. When people are under stress, they often overreact to little problems. For example, a normally gentle parent under a lot of stress at work may yell at a child for dropping a glass of juice. Stress can make people angry, moody, or nervous.

Long-term stress can lead to a variety of serious mental illnesses. Depression, an extreme feeling of sadness and hopelessness, can be the result of continued and increasing stress. Alcoholism and other addictions often develop as a result of overuse of alcohol or drugs to try to relieve stress. If stress is allowed to continue, then one's mental health is put at risk.

It is obvious that stress is a serious problem. It attacks the body. It affects the emotions. Untreated, it may eventually result in mental illness. Stress has a great influence on the health, our feelings, and our minds. So, reduce stress: stop the world and rest for a while.
