Hong Kong and Paris are now the world's most expensive cities to live together with Singapore. It's the first time that three cities have been for the first place in the 30-year history of the Economist Intelligence Unit's 2019 Worldwide Cost of Living Survey.
Hong Kong moved up three places to join Singapore, which has been the world's most expensive place to live for the last five years. Paris, which has been one of the top 10 since 2003, moved up this year from the second most expensive last year. Paris, Singapore and Hong Kong are all 7 percent more expensive to live than New York.
The survey released on Tuesday compares the cost of 160 items, such as food, drink, transport, utility bills, and rent, in 133 cities. The top 10 most expensive cities are largely from Asian and European cities.
● Japan's Osaka moved up six positions, and now shares the fifth place with Switzerland's Geneva.
● New York and Los Angeles are the only North American cities in the top 10, to seventh place, a position it shares with Denmark's Copenhagen.
● Los Angeles was named the 10th most expensive city in the world, along with Israel's Tel Aviv. San Francisco has also become a more expensive place to live in.

A new beginning didn't come until I saw an advertisement in the newspaper for a little dog. I called to see if I could just have a look. To my surprise, they agreed. Within seconds of laying eyes on that small black-and-white fur ball, there was no way I went home without her. I named her Kelly.
I kept her in a large box, with some toys. She was very energetic. Even after a long walk, she still required attention and care until I played a game with her, which almost drove me crazy. So I turned to my cousin. "Get her into a good dog school. A dog like Kelly is in need of friendship with other dogs," he replied.
It was amazing to watch Kelly run around a yard with other dogs. Best of all, I noticed how well-behaved Kelly was after the play. One day, a strange woman called, "Would you be able to watch my dog for the weekend? I'll be happy to pay." Word spread until I was making money from nursing dogs. Kelly loved the friend, and I had to admit I did, too.
I set up the Hot Dggity Doggie Camp company in 2007. At first people didn't quite understand what I was doing. Gradually, word got around that you could drop off your dogs and picked them up after work at Hot Diggity Doggie. Business was growing rapidly. Every day the dogs were there to greet me. They needed me. And I needed them. Nowadays dog day care isn't unfamiliar around here. In fact, now I have quite a few competitors in town. The more happy dogs, the better.

B、She thought for a long time. C、She felt confused. D、She liked her at once.(3)、What does a little dog need most according to the author's cousin?A、Good food. B、Toys. C、Friends. D、Competitions.(4)、What does the author intend to express in the last paragraph?A、Her Hot Diggity Doggie is still a new try. B、Many people don't understand her job. C、The author is fond of her present work. D、The author doesn't like competition.3. 阅读理解"Snowplow(扫雪机) parenting" is the newest parenting style that can include parents booking their adult children haircuts, calling their college kids to wake them up so that they don't sleep through a test, and even calling their kids' employers.
"'Helicopter (直升机) parenting' means monitoring their kids' every activity, which is out of date." Claire Cain Miller and Jonah Engel Bromwich wrote in The New York Times. "Some rich mothers and fathers now are more like snowplows: clearing any problems in their children's path to success so that they don't have to meet failure or lose opportunities."
There is a mother who started a charity in her son's name to try to raise his chances of being accepted to the college. Another parents spent years helping their daughter avoid foods with sauce, which she didn't like. Once she got to college, she had problems with the food in her school because it was all covered in sauce.
A survey says that three-quarters of parents of children between the ages of 18 and 28 ask for doctor visits or haircuts for their children, and 11% say they would call their kids' bosses whether their children are having an issue at work.
As reported, wealthy parents try to get their children into top colleges by giving a large amount of money to a school, such as paying for a building. This parenting has become the most popular way to raise children, whatever the income, education, or race is.
Julie, a teacher at Stanford, told the Times that "snowplow parenting" is not a reasonable approach. "The parents should prepare the kid for the road, instead of preparing the road for the kid," she said.

D、It is refused by rich people.(2)、What is the character of "helicopter parenting"?A、Parents make kids popular. B、Parents provide little money for kids. C、Parents ask kids to care for themselves. D、Parents watch over kids' every activity.(3)、What should parents do according to Julie?A、Do as wealthy parents do. B、Make kids be prepared. C、Make roads be prepared. D、Do as little as possible.(4)、What's the best title for the text?A、Helicopter Parenting. B、The Similarity in Parenting. C、A Research on Parenting. D、A New Kind of Parenting.4. 阅读理解The ocean waves (波浪) are getting stronger as a result of climate change, which might cause dangers for coast cities in the future, according to the latest study published in the scientific journal Nature. Researchers found that waves have increased in strength by 0.41 percent per year since 1948. This change is related to the increasing sea-surface temperature, which is driving sea level to rise and bringing more serious and extreme weather.
This relationship is important, as it shows that "global wave power can be a valuable reminder of global warming, carbon dioxide concentration, the global sea level rise or the global surface atmosphere temperature," said director of research at the Environmental Hydraulics Institute at Spain's University of Cantabria.
The study reveals a long-term and increasing wave energy. The effects of this increase are particularly clear during the storm seasons. A storm was formed in the winter of 2013-2014 in the North Atlantic, which affected the west coast of Europe. "The storm in 2017 in the Caribbean reminded people of the huge economic effects coming from coastal storms," said the study.
Researchers hope the findings could provide a more complete understanding of the dangers faced by coastal cities in the coming decades. "Our results show that ignoring the changes in wave power and having sea level rise may cause us to think little of climate change, which will result in not enough or poor preparation," warned the author Fernando J. Mendez, a professor at the University of Cantabria.
The findings may warn governments to better protect the population in the coastal cities and infrastructure (基础设施) such as ports and harbors by building coastal defenses.
(1)、What's a result of stronger ocean waves?A、Climate begins to change. B、People living near the coast face danger. C、Oceans are being polluted D、Cities will move to other places.(2)、Which of the following may lead to stronger ocean waves?A、The rising sea- surface temperature. B、Coastal cities. C、More population. D、More ports and harbors.(3)、Which of the following best explains "reveals" underlined in paragraph 3?A、Affects. B、Invents. C、Selects. D、Shows.(4)、What is the probable purpose of the study?A、To predict the climate change. B、To advertise the results. C、To warn governments and coastal people of the increasing ocean waves. D、To encourage people in the coastal cities.二、任务型阅读(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
