    Like most teenagers in the world, Joso Montanaro, a teen artist in Brazil likes reading and drawing cartoons. But he is special—his drawings get published.

    Montanaro is now drawing cartoons for Folha. Folha is Brazil's newspaper and is known for its cartoons.

Montanaro has already been working at Folha for two years. Each week he draws two, three or four cartoons and sends them to the paper. From those editors choose one for the next day's page. Montanaro draws about the news of the day. Recently he worked on The Wave—a drawing of the tsunami (海啸) that hit Japan. Montanaro also likes to draw cartoons about the funny things that happen in Brazilian politics (政治).

    "I like doing political drawings because you can joke about somebody bigger than you," Montanaro says.

    Folha's art director Mario Kanno says editors saw something new and different in Montanaro's works. "We brought him in with this idea to show that, yes, young people also read newspapers and can show their ideas on politics," Kanno says.

    Montanaro's love for cartoons began when he was only 7 or 8 years old. His dad bought him comics. Montanaro says these books gave him the ideas that got him drawing. "I think those great works have really helped me," he says. "They remind me that I should draw something in my book every day."

    Walt Disney lived on a farm when he was a young boy. From an early age, Walt liked to draw animals. He watched the farm animals carefully. He made lifelike drawings of them. Walt's family had no money for paper. But Walt was clever and he drew a pig on the wall of his house. Walt's parents were not happy! Then Walt's aunt gave him drawing paper.

    When Walt grew up, he got a job drawing animals for cartoons. Creative ideas filled Walt's head. The other cartoons were silent, so Walt made a cartoon with music and talking characters. This cartoon was called Steamboat Willie. The star was Mickey Mouse. Mickey talked and sang. People loved him.

    Walt liked to try new things. Most cartoons were only a few minutes long.

Walt wanted to make a two—hour animated (动画的) film. Some people said it was a bad idea, but Walt believed in himself. He made Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

    Walt's new ideas changed animated films forever. He made many popular cartoon films over the years. People have been watching Pinocchio, Bambi and the other Disney films for years. People will watch them for years to come.

His most successful robot invention is his robot dog, Goddard. Most of his inventions go wrong, but he and his friends end up saving the city time and time again. His poor mother Judy fears for the safety of her kitchen appliances, as Jimmy is known to "borrow" and "improve" them regularly. Kids of all ages will enjoy this cartoon.

    Robot and Monster

    The newest cartoon from Nickelodeon Animation Studio is about a robot and a monster who are friends. The robot is voiced by Curtis Armstrong and the monster is voiced by Harland Williams. This show is probably most proper for ages 6 and up. Both my young son and I enjoyed it. There is a lot of humour as well as interesting writing that will appeal to different age groups.

    Over fifty years ago, most films had no sound. A man named Walt Disney made a cartoon mouse that could talk in these films. He named his mouse Mickey Mouse. Soon Mickey Mouse became a good friend of both young and old people. Mickey is a clean mouse right from the beginning. Perhaps this is why people love Mickey Mouse. In his early life Mickey made some mistakes. People were very angry. They wrote to Disney and said that they didn't want Mickey to do wrong things. As there were many things that Mickey could not do, Disney made a new animal named Donald Duck. He also made a dog, Pluto. This dog does foolish things and makes mistakes wherever he goes. Now our Mickey Mouse is not only clean, but more interesting. He has friends in almost every country.
