People think mobile phones are fun and useful. People use mobile phones every day and everywhere. Many people use their mobile phones to send messages, surf the Internet and even listen to music.
Parents buy mobile phones for their children. They can call home if they are in trouble and need help so that they feel safer. However, young people mostly use them to keep in touch with their friends or play simple mobile games. It's cool to have a small and expensive mobile! As an eighteen-year-old girl in London, Rosie Farrer says, "Before, girls of my age smoked to look good. Now we have mobiles!" Rosie is right. Research shows that young owners of mobile phones smoke less! Parents and schools are happy that young children are safer and smoke less.
However, we are not sure whether mobiles are safe. It's possible that mobiles can hurt the brain because we hold the phone so close to our head. Scientists are afraid that mobiles can perhaps be bad for our memory and even give us cancer. Many parents don't give their younger children mobiles for this reason.
So why do we use mobiles when we aren't sure whether they are safe? Because mobiles are fun and very useful, we choose to forget the possible dangers. We choose to believe that mobiles are safe. Let's hope we are right!

I wasn't looking forward to going home and my friends wouldn't be able to hang out with me. Then I walked past a homeless person that I hadn't seen before. He was moving back and forth to keep warm and asking for change very gently. He spoke so quietly that I could hardly hear him.
Something made me stop, turn around and walk up to him. At the same time, anxious thoughts appeared in my head like, "What do you think you're doing?" "You're alone; it's dark and you're a woman."
With these thoughts, I came up to him and invited him to have dinner with me. He walked with me to the restaurant and held the door open for me as we entered.
We had a good dinner and a pleasant conversation about where we grew up and what kind of music we liked. During the whole time, I tried to respect him and didn't want to show that I was better than anyone.
I was so grateful for this experience. It changed my life. It'll make me think twice in future before I complain about something I think I lack.
