Frank is a student. He likes playing with his phone very much. And he keeps the phone with him at all times. His dad thinks he is addicted(上瘾的) to his phone. But Frank doesn't think so. They write to each other.

    Dear Frank,

You've heard the warnings. It's reported that fifty percent of the teenagers depend on their phones too much. I think you have this problem too. That's why I think you should give up your phone. Not forever, just for a week. I'm warned that you are developing some bad habits. You keep your phone with you all the time—you even check the basketball scores at the dinner table. It's not a good idea to use your phone while you are doing homework. You can't put your heart into your homework at all. And you may make more mistakes when you can't fully put your heart into it. There are many good reasons to take a break from your phone. Have a try! So what do you say? Are you ready to give up using your phone?

    Dad

    Dear Dad,

I know you think I depend on my phone too much. But I'm just using technology to help my life to be better. My phone helps me in many ways.

Do you remember that time when the car broke down? I sent a message to tell you that I was going to be safe.

If I didn't, you would be worried about me. My phone helps me with my homework too. I can take up anything in a second. It's really hard to be successful today if you don't have a phone. Social media, games, and apps might seem silly to you, but they help me to keep in touch with my friends. I promise to cut back my phone use, and I won't use it at the dinner table any more. But giving it up for a week would be a mistake and it wouldn't change anything in the long term.

    Frank.

Beijing Opera is the most representative of all Chinese traditional dramatic art forms and the largest Chinese opera form. Having a history of about 200 years, it is developed from absorbing(吸收)many other dramatforms, mostly from the local drama 'Huiban', which was popular in South China during the 18th century. It is a scenic(戏剧的)art integrating music, performance, literature, aria, and face painting.

In addition to its presence in China, Beijing Opera has spread to many other places. Mer Lanfang, one of the most famous performers(表演者)of all time, was the first to introduce Beijing Opera to foreigners and made highly successful tours to foreign countries.

"You will be puzzled(困惑)all the way through and a little bored from time to time; but you will be charmed and interested. You will be strongly attracted to Beijing Opera even if you know nothing of the dramatic background. "This is how one American traveller described his firs experience in watching Beijing Opera.

Do you think laughter can help you deal with pain? Scientists from Britain did two experiments(实验). The first was done in a lab. People wore special wristbands(腕带). Some of them were asked to watch comedies while others watched serious programs. Then the scientists tightened(勒紧)the wristbands to see how much pain the people could feel.

The other test was done at an art festival. Some people watched a comedy show and others watched a drama(戏剧). At the same time, they had to put their backs against the wall and keep their legs bent(弯曲的)just like sitting on a chair. They did this before and after the show.

Scientists found that just 15 minutes of laughter improves people's ability to stand pain by 10%. However, the serious programs and the drama didn't make a difference to pain at all.

The study found that the magic power of laughter comes from endorphins(内啡肽). These are chemicals(化学物质). They are produced by the human body. They make you feel less pain and can make people feel happier. Exercise can produce endorphins. Your muscles(肌肉)move in and out when you are laughing. Scientists believe that this makes your muscles tiring, so we start to produce endorphins.

Scientists also found that the only real and relaxing laughter works not just polite laughter.

Squirrels are getting ready for winter. They are looking for nuts and seeds, digging holes in the ground or finding holes in trees. That's where they store the food they will need during the coming months, when the weather is cold and sometimes snowy.

Squirrels spend a lot of time in trees, which are like restaurants for them. Among their favorite things to eat are nuts and other parts of trees, like tender buds (花苞).

Squirrels may also eat corn, insects and other animals. And, as anyone who has a bird knows, squirrels love bird food!

Squirrels stay active all winter, so they need plenty of food to help keep up their energy. Squirrels tend to bury food underground, piece by piece. Some squirrels may gather food into piles that they put at the base of trees or bury underground.

When they need food, squirrels use their memory and smell to help them find what they buried. Sometimes, you'll even see them digging through the snow.

Squirrels make nests in trees. Some squirrels spend much of the winter  in underground tunnels (地道), where it is warmer.

When spring comes, squirrels change their eating habits to new plant growth, like buds and leaves. Sometimes they forget to dig up all their buried nuts.
