The ways of narration (讲述) in novels are various. Wuthering Heights has a difficult narrative structure. The story begins in 1801. It is first narrated by Lockwood, a visitor staying in Thrushcross Grange, one of the two houses, where we can meet different characters in the novel. Lockwood is a narrow, dull man and also a bad man who lives emotionally through a dirty interest in the lives of others. It is this side of his character that leads into the main narrative stream of the novel. His interest in what he sees and experiences on his visits to Wuthering Heights leads him to encourage Nelly Dean, the house-keeper at the Grange, to provide him with the information concerning the people that he has met: Heathcliff, Cathy, Hareton, Joseph and, of course, the ghost of Catherine.

Nelly Dean's story forms the major part of the narrative. While Nelly is meant to be an objective narrator, she has a lot to do with what has happened over the past twenty-five years that have led to the present state of affairs. Therefore, as readers, we need to realize how Nelly presents events and characters and her own role in determining the course of events.

The final part of the novel concerns the immediate future and provides us with the results of Lockwood's visit to the Heights and the appearance of Catherine's ghost. It is narrated by both Lockwood and Nelly.

Finally, Isabella, the wife of Heathcliff, through a letter, narrates one middle part of the novel. Although this narrative structure may, at first, be very difficult, it is necessary because in the world of the novel, time order of the years is not so important.

(1)、From the first paragraph, we can know the first narrator is ______.
    A、Lockwood B、Thrushcross C、Heathcliff D、Nelly Dean
(2)、What is special about the middle part of the novel?
A、One part of it is written in the form of a letter. B、It describes how Isabella and Heathcliff got separated. C、It is the most difficult part in the novel. D、One part of it suggests Catherine has been dead
(3)、This passage is quite probably ______.
A、a piece of news B、a part of a novel C、a writing instruction D、a reading guide

In 2019, to which we're to say goodbye, we've seen many blockbusters, which surely leave a deep impression on us. Do you still have a fresh memory of them? Below has picked three for you. Let's take a look.

Spider-Man: Far From Home, July 5, US

Tom Holland, the lead actor of 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, returns to play Peter Parker, a high school student who gains superpowers after being bitten by a spider.

When we see him again in theaters Spider-Man will have a new red-and-black suit. The movie will take the famous wall-crawler on a global adventure outside of the US. According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, Spider-Man will try a return to his "normal" self; he will try to find his old powers on his new journey.

Hobbs and Shaw, July 26, US

To most people the Fast and Furious series is all about crazy drivers racing in sports cars. But in Hobbs and Shaw, humor is added to the action-packed thrills.

The new film will hit US theaters on July 26. Famous English actor Jason Statham will star alongside Dwayne Johnson, "The Rock", as Deckard Shaw and Luke Hobbs respectively (分别地), as in their previous appearances in Fast and Furious films.

When the pair fought face to face in Fast and Furious 8 (2017), a confrontation (对峙) was considered as the "battle model for warriors". The action and chemistry really excited their audience.

But the new action scenes between an MI6 agent Hobbs and the killer Shaw will have to be good to beat their performance in the 2017 movie.

The Lion King, July 19, US

This is a brand-new version of the classic children's film. The story of wide-eyed young lion Simba still remains in hearts of world audiences even after 25 years. In this re-telling, Simba again begins the difficult journey to become the King of the Pride Lands, a vast African prairie.

The favorite part of the story for many has always been the friendship between Simba, the meerkat called Timon and the warthog Pumbaa. The last two sacrifice all they have to help Simba to his throne. How will the new movie re-imagine their famous relationship?

(1)、Which is the most suitable for children?
A、Hobbs and Shaw. B、Spider-man. C、The Lion King. D、None of them.
(2)、What's the difference between Fast and Furious 8 and Hobbs and Shaw?
A、They have different lead actors. B、Humour is put to Hobbs and Shaw. C、Hobbs and Shaw is less thrilling. D、Fast and Furious 8 is an action-packed thrills.
(3)、Which of the following statements is right?
A、The 2017 Fast and Furious is better than Hobbs and Shaw. B、Hobbs and Shaw is all about crazy drivers racing in sports cars. C、Yong Simba himself conquered all the difficulties during the journey to throne. D、Spider-man: Far From Home has the same lead actor with Spider-man: Home-coming.

The end of the year is drawing near, and winter is in full swing. The season brings along with it strong winds and snow — an environment that's never comfortable to be in.

This unpleasant and even frightening aspect of winter can often be seen in literature. In Shakespeare's King Lear (1606), the king has given away his kingdom and been rejected by his two ungrateful daughters. He is out in the winter cold, suffering things that are usually reserved for the poorest and most unfortunate human beings.

The winter is bad enough for Lear, but being abandoned by his family is worse. A song from another Shakespeare play, As You Like It(1599), is fitting for this poor old man's situation: "Blow, blow, thou winter wind/Thou art not so unkind /As ma's ingratitude (忘恩负义)". Here, winter is used to bring out the ugliness of inhumanity (无人性). There aren't many things that are worse than winter, according to Shakespeare.

Once winter became less of a threat to human beings, literary works featuring it became more positive. Since Charles Dickens, the representation of the season in literature has often featured happy Christmas celebrations.

The cold of the winter weather provides a contrast to the fun going on indoors.

Dickens' A Christmas Carol (1843) was the start of this, but Christmas is still a common, cheery element (元素)in stories that feature winter scenes today. Consider the joy felt by Harry Potter and his friends in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (1997) as they sit down for their festive meal:

"Harry had never in all his life had such a Christmas dinner. A hundred fat, roast turkeys; mountains of roast and boiled potatoes; platters of chipolatas; tureens of buttered peas, silver boats of thick, rich gravy and cranberry sauce".

It is almost as much a pleasure to read about the meal as it might have been to eat it.

Although winter still isn't the most cheerful season in novels and poems, it's safe to say that writers have certainly "warmed up" since Shakespeare's days.

(1)、What's the author's main purpose in writing this article?
A、To recommend some winter stories in literature. B、To explain what winter is like in literary works. C、To describe certain customs that are related to winter. D、To tell us why winter is described as unpleasant in literature.
(2)、What can we learn from Shakespeare's works?
A、Shakespeare didn't like winter for its bad weather. B、King Lear was forced to give up being a king in a cold winter. C、It's in winter when King Lear drove his two daughters off. D、Winter is compared with the ugly side of humanity.
(3)、Why does the author mention Charles Dickens in the passage?
A、Because a lot of his works are related to winter. B、Because he is the most popular author of winter stories. C、Because he started a new way of representing winter. D、Because his works make people feel cheerful in winter.
(4)、The example of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is used mainly to show      .
A、traditional Christmas food makes the winter cheery B、Christmas is still a symbol of joy in modern stories C、it's a pleasure to read Christmas-related books in winter D、winter has become the happiest season in literary works
