When I was 14, life was boring. However, I didn't mind having the same views every day. And even though my school had over a thousand students, I didn't really care to notice the differences between us all.

But this boring view of mine changed when my parents bought me a camera for my birthday. After a month of playing with my new camera, I realized I had no talent for taking pictures. Even if I got friends to pose in front of ancient buildings and in flowery fields, nothing seemed to work. My photos were clearly missing something of importance and had no creativity. After a while, I dropped my new hobby.

Then, a month or two later, I suddenly decided to pick it up again. During the summer break, I went for a walk on the railroad tracks (铁轨) behind my house.

The tracks are in a warm red color. Before the walk, I thought, "Maybe I should bring my camera."

Surprisingly, this walk was what began my love for photography. When I was walking on the tracks without a model and only nature around me, I realized how important it was to look at the details (细节) of things. I didn't worry about trying to create something beautiful. Instead, I just took photos of the beauty already around me.

I quickly became crazy about color, lighting, shape and everything in between. After months of studying outdoor sights and looking at people's eyes, I was finally able to create beauty of my own. Slowly, my photos became something I was proud of.

So far, my works have appeared in two magazines and two different museums. They're not huge achievements, but they're important to me. And they're the signs of how much my artistic abilities have grown.

Thanks to this birthday gift from my parents, I now have a new way of looking at the world.

(1)、The writer gave up taking photos at first, because ____________.
A、his parent didn't allow him to take photos. B、he thought he had no talent for taking pictures. C、it took him too much time to take photos. D、he had no interest in taking photos.
(2)、What changed the writer's attitude towards photography?
A、The new camera as a gift. B、The walk on the railroad tracks. C、The magazines with his works. D、The beauty of the outdoor sights.
(3)、According to the writer, what might be useless for him to take photos well?
A、Looking at the details of things. B、Creating beauty of one's own. C、Having models good at posing. D、Looking at people's eyes.
(4)、What do we know about the writer at last?
A、He finally made great success in photography. B、His works have been shown on TV and in magazines. C、He no longer feels bored about the world. D、He still doesn't have any artistic abilities.

Have you ever heard of "a ball of energy"? People often use it to describe very active children. But today we tell about an invention called the soccket, that is a real soccer ball of energy. Julia Silverman explains that in fact the soccket is a portable generator (便携式发电机).

Julin Silverman and Jessica Matthews developed the soccket as part of a group project for an engineering class at Harvard University.

There are mechanisms (装置) in a soccket. When you kick, hit or throw it, energy is then kept in it by these mechanisms instead of disappearing into the environment.

Then the user can put something directly into the ball, like a lamp, or a mobile phone charger (充电器)  so that they can get energy from it.

For every fifteen minutes of the game play, the soccket can provide enough electricity(电) for an LED lamp for three hours, and the ball can store(储藏) up to 24 hours' electricity.

The International Energy Association reported last year that nearly one and a half billion people in the world had no electricity to use, and most of them live in Africa, India and other countries in Asia.

Julia Silverman and Jessica Matthews both had experiences in developing countries before they began the project. They knew that power shortages are a serious problem in really areas.

There's an energy crisis in the world. One out of every five people in the world don't have any electricity. And besides that, there are a lot of health problems because what people use instead of the electricity are harmful choices like kerosene(煤油) lamps, which produce a lot of smoke.

Julia Silverman says the soccket ball is one small solution to a big problem.
