Every year on my birthday since I was 11, a white gardenia (栀子花) was sent to my house. No card ever came with it. Calls to the flower shop were not helpful at all. After some time I stopped trying to find out the sender's name and was just pleased with the beautiful flower, in soft pink paper.

I couldn't stop imagining who the giver might be. Some of my happiest moments were spent daydreaming(幻想 )about the sender. My mother encouraged these daydreams. She'd ask me if I had been especially kind to someone. Perhaps it was one of my classmates, Perhaps it was the old man who I once helped. As a girl, I had more fun imagining that it might be a boy that I had met.

A month before my high school graduation(毕业), my father died. I was so sad that I became completely uninterested in my coming graduation dance, and I didn't care whether I had a new dress or not. My mother, in her own sadness, would not let me miss (错过) any of those things. She wanted her children to feel loved. In fact, my mother wanted her children to see themselves much like the gardenia: lovely, strong and perfect.

My mother died ten years after I was married. That was the year the gardenia stopped coming.

Imagine a vegetable garden that everyone can reach: one you don't have to bend down to weed, that can follow the sun around in a small backyard and that won't take up too much space. "Impossible!"you say —think again! A group of people living in suburban Melbourne came up with a creative way to garden in small space.

They all love growing vegetables but not everyone could do that when they just had a conventional vegetable garden. To solve the problem, they added a mobile vegetable patch(菜地). They turned an old hospital bed into a garden on wheels. The bed can be raised and lowered so everyone, including people in wheelchairs, can enjoy working in the garden. Their local greengrocer(蔬菜水果商) provided some containers, where they planted their vegetables. This perfect garden can be easily wheeled around to follow the sun!

It is a great activity for Michele, Marianne, Shelly, Jimmy and Ashley, who have a disability(残疾) and are supported in their homes by people employed by the Department of Human Services. The garden is a joy to everyone and provides the vegetables for a lot of cheap and nutritious meals. "Our garden is coming along well," says Michele.

"We've been eating lots of salad items —lettuce, cucumbers and spring onions. Everyone loves them. Unfortunately, the strawberries were a failure. I think it was a bit too hot in the pots for them. We have plans for a potato crop next year, grown on newspapers and covered with straw and sheep manure(肥料). It is a very 'no-dig' way to grow them."

(1)、The underlined word "conventional" in Paragraph 2 means _______.
    A、traditional B、real C、special D、large
(2)、Compared with a traditional garden, the most obvious characteristic(特征)of the new garden is that _______.
A、it can save energy B、it is quite cheap C、it is environmentally friendly D、it can be easily offered
(3)、Disabled people may especially love the new garden mainly because _______.
A、it helps them make some money B、it brings them a lot of pleasure C、it encourages them to help others D、it is good for their health
(4)、From the passage we know that _______.
A、people need to get more fresh and cheap vegetables B、it's a joy for people to be in close touch with nature C、people want to make the best use of waste and old materials D、all fruits can grow well in the vegetable patch

Sometimes I really doubt (怀疑) whether there is love between my parents. Every day they are busy trying to make money in order to pay for my brother's education and mine. They don't act in the romantic ways that I read in books or I see on TV. For them, "I love you" is too difficult to say. Even sending flowers to each other on some special days is hardly ever seen.

One day, my mother was repairing a quilt. I silently sat beside her and looked at her. "Mom, may I ask you a question?" I said. "What?" she replied, still doing her work. "Is there love between you and Dad?" I asked her in a very low voice. My mother stopped her work and looked at me in surprise. She didn't answer my question at once. Then, she bowed her head and continued to do her work.

I was afraid that I had hurt her feelings. I felt so embarrassed that I didn't know what to do. But at last I heard my mother say the following words:

"Look at this thread (线). Sometimes it appears, but most of the time, it hides in the quilt. The thread really makes the quilt strong and durable. If life is a quilt, then love should be a thread. It can hardly be seen anywhere or anytime, but it's really there."

I couldn't understand her until the next spring. At that time, my father suddenly got sick seriously. My mother had to stay with him in the hospital for a month. When they returned from the hospital, they both looked very pale. After they were back, every day in the morning and dusk, my mother helped my father walk slowly on the country road. My father had never been so gentle. The doctor had said my father would recover in two months. But after two months he still couldn't walk by himself. All of us were worried about him. "Dad, how are you feeling now?" I asked him one day. "Susan, don't worry about me." he said gently. "To tell you the truth, I just like walking with your mom. I like this kind of life." Reading his eyes, I know he loves my mother deeply.

Once I thought love meant flowers, gifts and sweet kisses. But from this experience, I understand that love is just a thread in the quilt of our life. Love is inside, making life strong and warm.

(1)、Why does the writer doubt the love of her parents?
A、Because they hardly meet each other. B、Because they hardly speak to each other. C、Because they often argue with each other D、Because they hardly express their love.
(2)、How did the writer feel after she asked her mom the question?
    A、Embarrassed. B、Excited. C、Angry. D、Bored.
(3)、Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A、The writer understood her mum's words at once. B、After two months from the hospital, Susan's father could walk by himself. C、The writer's parents didn't love each other. D、Love is there, no matter whether you say it or not.
(4)、What's the best title for the passage?
A、My Parents B、Love is Just a Thread C、How to Find Love D、Where to Find Love

Most children now chat daily either online or through their mobile phones. They are connecting to a huge number of other children all over the world. Some are shy "in real life" but are confident to communicate with others online; others find support from people of their own age on relationship issues, or problems at home.

Sometimes the online world, just like the real world, can introduce problems, such as bullying or arguments. Going online is great fun, but there are also a few people who use the Internet for offensive(冒犯性的)or illegal aims. Children must be made aware of both the good things and the danger.

To keep children safe your management must cover the family computer. Just as you decide which TV programs are suitable, you need to do the same for the websites and chat rooms your children visit. Remind your children that online friends are still strangers. Reminding them of the risks will keep them alert(警惕).

Computer studies are part of schoolwork now, so it's likely that your children may know more than you do. We get left behind when it comes to the latest gadgets (玩意儿) and interactive areas of websites, like chat rooms and message boards, which are especially strange. The language of chat is strange to many parents, too. Chatters love to use abbreviations such as: atb— all the best; bbfn— bye bye for now; cul8er —see you later; gr8—great; idk— I don't know; imbl— it must be love; kit —keep in touch; paw— parents are watching; lol—laugh out loud; xlnt— excellent!

(1)、The passage is written for __________.
    A、parents B、children C、teachers D、net bar owners.
(2)、If you stand beside him when your son is chatting about something secret online, he may use          .
    A、bbfn B、lol C、paw D、cul8er
(3)、Which of the following will the author probably agree with?
A、Children shouldn't chat so much online. B、People had better not use the net language in real life. C、Parents are advised to choose suitable websites and chat rooms for their children.  D、Children should surf the Internet together with their parents.
