    In the future, people might create a "man" that cannot have a will of his own and has to follow orders only from his master(主人). The master must train him mentally with computers. As you know, an adult who follows the same training over and over again will not be able to change without another training. This means the master can have him work in a factory with no payment. And he will still be happy even if he only gets the basic life-support goods, because it's the way he was trained. I believe that this is the reason why the government does not allow any human research.

    One of the most detailed(详细的) descriptions Of a UEO was given by nine-year-old Gaynor in Sunderland in July 1976.

    Gaynor lived in Oakenholt, a village in North Wales. On her way home from school, she saw a silver(银色的) object shaped like a saucer(茶碟) in a field not far from her home.

    The strange craft(飞行物) was about 30 feet long and 9 feet high. It had yellow windows along the side and on the top there was a light flashing in a kind of box. Although Gaynor was very frightened, she did not run away. Instead, she lay quietly in the long grass and watched the door of the strange craft open. She saw two people wearing silver suits come out of the craft. They were carrying some kind of equipment(设备) which they used to examine the ground.  They were short and had large pink eyes, Gaynor reported.

    After about half an hour, the two people went back into the craft. At once there was a loud noise and the UFO took off.

    Although Gaynor told her mother what she had seen, her family decided to keep quiet about it. They did not want people to laugh at their daughter. However, 18 months later, Gaynor told her story to UFO experts. They hypnotized(使进入睡眠状态) Gaynor so that they could be sure she was telling the truth.

    Not only did she repeat her story, but also she was able to draw a picture of what she had seen!

    1970 was World Conservation(保护) Year. The United Nations wanted everyone to know that the world was in danger. They hoped something could be" done.

    Here is one example of the problem. At one time there were 1,300 kinds of plants, trees and flowers in Holland(荷兰), but now only 866 are left. The others have been destroyed (毁灭) by modern people and their science. We are polluting earth, air, water and everything around us. We can't live without these things. If things go on like this, we shall destroy ourselves.

    What will happen in the future? Perhaps it's more important to ask "What must we do?". More and more young people have known this. Many of them are helping to save our earth. For example, they plant trees. In a small town in the United States a large group of girls cleaned the banks of 11 kilometres of their river. Young people may hear about conservation through a song called "No one's going to change our world". It was made by Cliff Gichard and other singers. The money from it will help to conserve tigers, elephants and pandas on the earth.

A Faithful Dog

    More than seven hundred years ago, the Prince of Wales had a very big and brave dog called Gelert.

    One day the Prince wanted to go hunting(打猎) with his men. He told his dog to stay at home and look after his baby son. The baby was in a wooden cradle(摇篮), which was like a small bed.

    When the Prince came back from hunting, Gelert ran out to meet his master. He wagged his tail and jumped up to put his paws(爪子) on the Prince's chest. Then the Prince saw the blood(血) on Gelert's jaws(下巴) and head.

    "What have you done?" the Prince said. He rushed into his house and looked for his baby son. The cradle was lying on its side on the floor. The clothes were torn and there was blood on them.

    "So you have killed my son?" the Prince said angrily. "You unfaithful dog!" He took out his sword(剑) and killed the dog. Just as Gelert was dying, he managed ( 设法 ) to bark. Then the Prince heard a baby call to the dog. The Prince ran out of the house and saw his son lying on the ground unhurt (没受伤). Near him was a dead wolf. Then the Prince knew that Gelert had defended(保卫) the baby and killed the wolf.

    The Prince ran back into the house but it was too late. Gelert was dead. The Prince was very sad indeed. Tears ran down his face when he realized he had killed his faithful friend. The Prince carried the body of his brave dog to the top of a mountain and buried(埋葬) him there. After this, the Prince never smiled again. Every morning at dawn, he walked up the mountain and stood by the dog's grave for a few minutes.

    If you go to Mount Snowdon in Wales, people will show you where Gelert is buried. There is a sign by his grave. It reminds people of a brave and faithful dog.

    Embroidery(刺绣) has a long history and can date back to the Warring States Period in China. Embroidery is very popular in many countries such as China, India and Japan. Embroidery is the handicraft of decorating fabric or other materials with needles and thread or yarn. Embroidery may also use other materials such as metal Strips, pearls, beads, quills and sequins. Embroidery is most often used on caps, hats, coats, blankets, dress shirts, denim, stockings and golf shirts. Embroidery is available with a wide variety of thread or yarn colours.

    Embroidery has many unique characteristics (特点 ). One of the interesting characteristics of embroidery is the basic techniques or stitches (针法), such as the chain stitch, the buttonhole or the blanket stitch, the running stitch, the satin stitch and the cross stitch. They are still the fundamental techniques of hand embroidery today.

    Embroidery can be classified according to whether the design is stitched on top of or through the foundation fabric; and by the relationship of stitch placement to the fabric. Different embroideries have their own advantages and disadvantages. In' modern society, we can produce many different embroideries. Machine embroidery is one of them: It appears in the early stages of the Industrial Revolution.

    Hayao Miyazaki is one of Japan's  (great) animation(卡通片绘制) directors.  He was  (bear) in Tokyo on January 5, 1941. He  (start) his career in 1963 as an animator at the Toei Animation.  1971, he moved to the A-Pro studio with Isao Takahata, then to Nippon Animation in 1973, where he was (heavy) involved in the World Masterpiece Theatre TV animation series  the next five years.
