    A guide dog is a blind person's eyes. It helps a blind person do things and go to different places.

    Guide dog puppies live with families. The families take the puppies to stores, schools, and other places. They teach the puppies to sit down and stand up. Then the puppies go to school. Trainers teach the dogs to do more things there. The dogs learn to go right and left. Next the dogs learn to wear harnesses. The harnesses fit over and around the dogs' bodies. The harnesses have stiff metal handles on the top. The blind people hold the handles. It helps them know which way the dogs are walking.

    When guide dogs finish school, they are ready to help. The dogs will help their owners go to school or work. They will help their owners get on and off the bus. They will lead their owners around things in the way. They will guide their owners across the busy streets.

    The owner and a guide dog become a team. Blind people will not feel lonely any more. They always have their best friends with them.

    Most cars run on gas. Gas cars work very well. But there is a problem. Cars that run on gas make the air dirty. The dirty air is not good for people, animals or trees. Gas cars make the air dirty for all living things. What can we do? We can drive electric cars!

    Electric cars do not use gas. These cars do not make the air dirty. These cars have batteries that power their motors(马达). The batteries can be charged（充电）many times. They can be used again and again. This makes electric cars great. But electric cars have problems too. They are slower than gas cars. They are also very quiet. This means that some people can't hear them when they go by. They may not think a car is coming. So they have to be careful.

    People are looking for ways to make electric cars better all the time. Maybe one day all cars will be electric. That would be much better for the world.

    A company wanted to get the best employee(雇员). After the competition, only three people were left.

    In the last competition, the three people entered a room with a monitor(监视器). Inside the room, there was everything they needed but no telephone and they couldn't surf the Internet. The three people just waited patiently for the exam questions.

    The first day, three people were very excited, watching TV, reading books and listening to music.

    The next day, because they still didn't know the exam questions, two of them were worried and often changed TV channels.

    Five days later, the winner was the one who could keep a happy life. The leader of the company thinks happiness is a kind of ability(能力). If you keep a happy heart, you will succeed finally!

    In China, there is an interesting festival in the year of dragon. It is said that the Dragon King, the God of Rain, makes fine weather to help the farmers' crops grow well and everything go on smoothly too. Of course, we hope it is a lucky year for all the people.

    To remember a great poet in ancient China, Qu Yuan, forever, we have the Dragon Boat Festival. Over 2,200 years ago, Qu Yuan was born in Zigui of Hubei, during the Warring States Period (战国时代). He was wise and he wrote many excellent poems. Among them, the most famous one is Li Sao. It was about the life of his own and full of his deep love for his motherland like other poems.

    The Dragon Boat Festival is on the fifth day of the fifth month in the Chinese lunar calendar (阴历). The most important thing during the festival is the dragon-boat race. When the race begins, the players are boating hard in the river, and other people are cheering for them. People also eat zong zi made of glutinous rice (糯米) to remember Qu Yuan.

    School was over. Usually David's mother would take him home from school but today she was not here. David decided to go home alone foot, and it took him about half  hour. When he got home, he couldn't get in he did not bring his keys. He knocked on the door, but no one answered. David thought his mother (be) in the toilet, so he waited patiently for her. After a few  (minute), David knocked again, but still no one answered. "What is happening? Is there anything wrong with my mother?" he thought to (he) and got worried. Just at that moment, he heard the (friend) voice of his neighbour, John. David told him that no one was at home, and John asked him (stay) in his house.
