    I once had little passion(激情) in my life. But what happened the other day changed my mind. It was then that I learned how 1 it is to have a passion in life.

    That day I went home in Mom's car. When Mom 2 at a red light, someone on the side of the road caught my eye. It was a man dressed 3 old clothes. He was homeless. That didn't interest me, because I had seen 4 like him before. Those people usually looked unhappy and hopeless.

    When I was a child, my parents always told me that I should never talk to strangers. This was part of a whole list of things I should never do: Never accept food or candy from strangers, never get in a car with strangers, and so on. They think strangers may do something harmful to us.

    But if we didn't start a conversation with strangers, we'd never make new friends. We'd never get a job. We may miss the happiness that comes from talking with strangers. And the more people you know, the more chances you can get.

    The following passage offers you some advice on how to break the ice.

Don't just look at your shoes. Go and say "Hi" to that new guy. It will be easier to break the ice if you know more about different cultures.

    British: Beautiful day, isn't it?

    The weather in Britain is changeable. So, it is one of the topics the British care most about. And there's a simple rule: Say "Yes" whether you agree with the person's idea on the weather or not. That's because the British start a conversation using the weather so that they can continue their talk.

    To talk with a French person, the safest way is to ask about his or her last holiday. French students enjoy a 10-to-15-day holiday every two months. French employees(雇员) get more than one and a half months of holidays every year.

    American: So, where are you from?

    The US is so big and people move so often that place is always a source(来源) of talk. You can try to find a connection with the place they're from. For example, if someone is from Los Angeles, you could say, "Oh, I have a friend who studied there."

    Sydney Fredette is very busy. Not only is she a high school student, but she has also set up her own organization（组织）, Beary Merry Christmas. She volunteers(志愿) to offer services to poor children and families in Orange Country in California, US.

    To remember her best friend who died of cancer nearly 10 years ago, Fredette decided to offer services to those in Orange Country who are less lucky than she is.

    She began with the easy idea of collecting donated(捐赠) Build-A-Bears, the popular toy animal that is made by children themselves in the stores' workshops. Fredette then gave them as presents to the homeless children in California during the holiday season.

    With donations at more than 100 bears a year, Fredette and volunteers hold activities every year, where volunteers not only give out the bears, but also clothing, meals, and other things.

    Not wanting to limit(限制) the giving to just the holiday months, Fredette held other activities for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Halloween, offering the chance to her volunteer team to make a difference through the year.

    "I love making friends with the people I offer services to," Fredette said. "It's so cool to hear their stories and see how happy they are."

    Fredette even built a public food bank and offered a self-development class to students in her school.

    She plans to stay local and continue to help out in her hometown.

    ①Would you like to have a brother or a sister? Years ago this might have sounded impossible to many. But since several years ago, with the end of China's "one-child policy(政策)", this could actually happen now. All Chinese couples are allowed to have two children. It means that many Chinese children may have siblings(兄弟姐妹) in the future.

    ④Even the birth order of siblings could matter too. US psychologist Kevin Leman said that birth order decides the way parents treat their children, thus causing different personalities between siblings.

    ⑤Kevin Leman explained that parents are usually more strict with their first child. So firstborns may be perfect because parents set high goals(目标) for them. They usually act well and hope to succeed. When the couple has a second child, they have fewer rules. So late-born children are usually more creative. They also love attention. It is said that many of them also have a good sense of humor.

    If someone (大笑) at you in public, that bad experience may have influenced(影响) your confidence. If being shy is a (问题) for you, don't worry too much! It's not difficult to become more confident—it just takes lots of practice.

    First, (交流) with your friends and family as often as possible. Instead of just listening, make sure you give your opinions, too.

    Next, move on to speaking in larger (组) or in small ones of strangers. If you get (紧张的), it's a good idea to stop and take a deep breath—that will help you relax.

    Finally, try to be more (活跃的). Try putting your hand up in class to volunteer your opinion. If you make a (凌乱) one day, don't give up; it gets easier with time. Just remember: your voice counts just as much as anyone else's! Also, you need to (参加) some competitions at your school, which will make you outgoing.

    Man has been interested in the outer space for thousands of years. It has been almost over forty years  man's first landing(登陆) on the moon. Now, some people believe that space exploration(探索) is a waste of time and money.     Anger(生气) is a kind of feeling. Many things can make you angry. When your teacher gives you too much homework, when your team loses an important game, when a friend borrows our favorite thing and then breaks it, you may get really angry.

    Usually, your body will tell you when you are angry.
