Katie had lived in Woodstock since she was three. The idea of moving to California started with Katie's mom. She thought it was good for Katie to learn art if they moved there.
When her mom suggested moving, Katie had many questions and things to care about. She wondered if she would have any friends in California. She thought it was a pretty big thing, because kids at this age started to make friends that they were probably going to have for the rest of their lives. Another big question was her cat because the sign on her new house said "No Pets". After much arguing, Katie finally gave up keeping her!
It took Katie some time to get used to the new school after she moved. At first, she didn't know where anything was and she was often late for class. The worst was that she didn't know anybody. However, Katie tried to do well in school, and she took part in many activities to make friends.

If you're wondering about the connection, the dish is composed of white truffle croquettes (油炸丸子).And in case you're not into truffles, Quince also serves frog legs on top of iPads playing videos of frogs in a pond.
"The idea is simply about taking the guest on a voyage," Michael Tusk, who runs the restaurant, told Inside Scoop SF. "Living in San Francisco for over twenty years, I have seen the technological development, and I want to combine (结合) food industry with technology and a Me bit of education." Local chef Richie Nakano attracted the attention of social media after showing a photo of the UA Dog in Search of Gold" that a friend had ordered. Some people complained about the high price of the dish, but most wondered whether it was healthy.
Tusk said, "We asked local wood worker Luke Bartels to create a housing (防护外壳) for the iPad — a glass cover that protects the screen. The food does not directly sit on top of the iPad. The cover is washed after every use."

Not caring about the money, parents often send their children to the best schools or foreign countries. They also make their children take after-school classes. The Chinese believe that the more expensive an education is, the better it is. In the countryside, even poor parents are willing to buy computers for their children.
But in fact, the best early education that parents can give their children is usually very cheap. They should teach their children the most important skills to help them become confident, happy and clever.
Parents can achieve this by teaching children practical skills like cooking, washing and doing other chores. Teaching children to cook will improve many skills that they will need later in life. Cooking needs patience and time. It's an enjoyable but difficult experience. A good cook always tries to improve his cooking skills, so he will learn to work hard and finish his job successfully. His result, a great dinner, will give him much satisfaction and a lot of self-confidence.
Some old machines, such as a broken radio or a TV set that you give your child to play with, will make him interested. He will spend hours looking at them and trying to fix them. Perhaps your child will become an engineer when he grows up because these activities can teach a child to think. And that is the most important.
(1)、How do Chinese parents usually deal with their children's education?A、All of them send their children abroad. B、They all buy computers for their children. C、They all let their children study in the best schools. D、They always try their best to give their children a better education.(2)、What does the underlined word "this" refer to?A、Teaching children the most important skills. B、For children, cooking is one of the most important skills. C、All parents like to use old machines to teach children to think. D、Most parents educate their children by teaching them to do the chores.(4)、What's the main idea of the passage?A、Parents should know how to educate their children better. B、Parents should pay attention to their children's school education. C、Parents are used to spending lots of money on their children's education. D、Chinese children need to learn to do the chores when they are young.20. 阅读理解Do you know anything about email?
Email is a kind of communication that is changing, for the worse, the way we write and use language, say some communication experts." Email has helped the spread of careless writing habits," says Baron, a professor at an American university. She says the poor spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure in emails show the growing unconcern about the way we write. Baron argues that we shouldn't forgive and forget the poor writing in emails. "The more we use the email, the more it becomes the normal way of writing," the professor says.
Others say that though it has poor writing, email has done what several generations (代)of English teachers couldn't do. It has made writing fashionable again.
"Email is a new communication technology," says Ian Lancashire, a professor of English at Toronto University. "It fills the gap (缺口)between spoken language and the formal (正式的)methods of writing. It is the purest form of written speech."
Lancashire says email can help people who are usually afraid of writing to get their thoughts flowing easily onto a blank screen. He says this is because email is close to speech. "It's like a circle of four or five people around a campfire," he says.
Still, he accepts that this freedom to express themselves often gets people into trouble. The number of emails sent in a day almost is the number of letters mailed in a year. But more people are recognizing the content (内容)of a typical email message is not often exact.
(1)、What can we know according to Baron?A、Email changes the way people communicate in everyday life. B、People should check the email many times before sending it. C、More people don't take the mistakes seriously when writing an email. D、Email has become a normal way of writing.(2)、What does the underlined word "it" refer to?A、Email. B、The poor writing. C、The good writing. D、The communication technology.(3)、Ian Lancashire thinks .A、email makes writing become popular again B、it is helpful for people to use email to express themselves C、emails are easier to write than letters D、people should remember the mistakes in emails(4)、What's the main idea of this passage?A、People should stop using email to communicate. B、People have different opinions about email. C、People should learn to write email correctly. D、People have realized the importance of good writing.21. 阅读理解Deep in the forest of southeastern Mexico, scientists found a surprise. They found an ancient pyramid. There were colorful murals (壁画)in it. A mural is a painting on a wall. Those murals are helping scientists unlock a mystery about people who lived in ancient times.
The murals are about 1,350 years old. That's more than five times older than the United States. Scientists say the paintings belonged to the Mayas. That was a group of Native American people. They lived many years ago in what is now Mexico and Central America.
Scientists are excited about the discovery because they don't know much about the Mayas' daily life, explains Michael Coe, an expert on the Mayas. The paintings show how the Mayas worked, shopped and dined. One mural shows a man drinking from a bowl. Another shows a woman selling food to a crowd of people.
"Mostly we get the murals that show gods and kings, never anything about the daily life," Coe said. "This is like walking into a Maya supermarket." So far, scientists have found more than 30 murals in the pyramid. They are not sure why the Mayas created them. The experts hope to learn more as they continue their search.
