    A son took his old father to a restaurant for an evening dinner. His father was very old and weak. So while his father was eating, he always dropped(落下) food on his clothes. Many people in the restaurant watched him in disgust(厌恶地), but his son kept quiet.

    After he finished eating, his son quietly took him to the washroom, washing the food and the other dirty things carefully. When they came out, the whole restaurant was watching them in silence.  The son paid the waiter for their food and started walking out with his father.

    At that time, an old man in the restaurant called out to the son and asked him, "Don't you think you have left something behind？"

    "No sir, I haven't," the son replied.

    "Yes, you have! You left a lesson for every son and hope for every father," the old man said.

    The restaurant went silent. No one said anything.

    Shopping for clothes is not the same for men as it is for women. A man goes shopping because he needs something. He will decide what to buy in advance. He knows what he wants, and his aim is to find it and buy it. Most men simply walk into a shop and ask someone for what they want. If the shop has it, and the price is good, they often finish shopping in less than five minutes, to everyone's satisfaction.

    For a man, some problems may begin when the shop does not have what he wants. At that time, the salesman tries to sell the man something else. He offers something that is almost the same as the article the man wants. Good salespeople say, "I know this jacket is not what you really want, sir, but would you like to try it for size. It happens to be the color you like." Most men don't care about this and may answer, "This may be the right color and the right size, but I won't waste my time trying it on."

    For a woman, it is different. Most of the time, she goes shopping not because she needs something. She hasn't decided what she wants before she goes shopping. She just goes to "have a look around". At first, she thinks about finding something that everyone will say "It looks good on you." Most women are always looking for bargains(特价商品). A woman may easily spend an hour looking at dresses before she wants to try on. It is a tiresome（令人厌烦的) process. Most clothes stores provide chairs for the waiting husbands.

    Many years ago, there was an old man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge(判断) things too quickly. So he told them to go and look at a pear tree. It was far away from his home.  The first, son went in winter, the second in spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in autumn.

    When the sons came back, the old man asked them to say what they had seen.

    The first son complained the tree was ugly. The second son said the tree was covered with buds and full of hope. The third son said the tree was full of green leaves. The youngest son said that the tree, bent down with heavy fruits.

    The old man explained that all of his sons were right, but each of them had seen just one season of the tree, He told them that they couldn't judge a tree or a person by only one season. "If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the hope of your spring, the beauty of your summer, and the harvest of your autumn." said the old man.

    It is true that we shouldn't let the hard season break the happiness of other seasons. Never give up during the difficult days and better times are sure to come some day.

    Maybe your childhood piano lessons made you never, want to play the piano again. Perhaps a piano is too expensive for you. Now, thanks to a program in Sydney called "Play Me, I'm Yours", people can play the piano in public places for free. They share beautiful music, and the program also helps them communicate with each other.

    The government has placed thirty pianos in different parts of the city, including in several parks, at a bus stop and on some streets. "Play Me, I'm Yours" are written on them. People are invited to play music or sing songs with the pianos. The program has interested lots of people to stop to watch or play the pianos.

    "Play Me, I'm Yours" is a part of the Sydney Festival. It is a project of the British artist, Luck Jerram. He wants to help people in the city know each other better. He thinks that so many people are sitting in front of computers and busy with their work all hours, and they almost have no chance to enjoy music. So he hopes this can help them relax and make new friends.

    The program "Play Me, I'm Yours" has also reached England and Brazil(巴西)before. It was warmly welcomed there. But its greatest success seems to come at the Sydney Festival. "It's a chance for people to be creative, know others better and just have some fun," Jerram said.

    A little octopus(章鱼) called Oliver lived in the deep sea. He felt bored and upset. He sat on the floor watching pretty fish swimming in and out of rocks. "How happy they are! Why am I so different?" Oliver said to himself sadly.

    "You are an octopus, Oliver.  That's special." The sweet voice of Cherub, a beautiful purple angelfish(神仙鱼), always made Oliver feel better. Oliver looked up at the purple angelfish and smiled. Cherub suggested, "Let's play hide-and-seek. They were having so much fun that they didn't realize they had swum far from home. Suddenly, Cherub saw a large shark swimming above them. "It was Big White... the biggest, scariest shark in the sea," she shouted to Oliver. Cherub looked at Big -White hopelessly. (A)An idea came to Oliver. He quickly sprayed(喷射) a very dark cloud of black water to the shark's eyes. Then Oliver and Cherub escaped and got home safely.

    "Are you OK?" asks Oliver.  Cherub laughed happily, "That was the most interesting trip ever! You saved me just now, Oliver. (B)有你做我的朋友我真幸运 !"Oliver's face turned red." I guess being different can be pretty cool in some situations, "Oliver said. "That is what I tried to tell you," Cherub smiled.

    As we know, people who can't see anything live difficult lives. They may have(苦恼)in going out. Also, they feel (寂寞)when they stay at home alone. Can people save these problems?

    In 1918, a doctor and his pet dog walked with a (眼瞎的) soldier. The doctor had something to do in the hospital, so he left his pet dog and the soldier for a short time. When he came back, he (注意到)his pet dog guided the soldier safely. So he made a (决定)that he would teach dogs to guide persons and he succeeded at last. This made the people who can't see (兴奋的).

    The best dogs for the job are clever. It takes more than two years to (训练) a little dog to be a guide-dog. When the dog is 14 months old, it can understand people's instructions(指令) easily. Then it will meet its new  (主人)and they need to practice together for four weeks. With the help of the guide-dog, the disabled people become (独立). They never  (依靠)on others.

    Each country has many kinds of people who volunteer (take) care of others. example, some high school and university students in America often(spend) many hours doing volunteers in hospitals or old people's homes. They read books to the people there, or they just visit them or listen to  (they) problems.

    Other young volunteers go and work in the homes of people who are sick. –They clean up or do the shopping. For boys who don't have fathers, there is an organization (call) Big Brothers. University students and other people take these boys to baseball games and help them to get to know things that boys usually learn from their fathers.

    Each city (have) a lot of clubs where boys and girls can go to play games or take part in other activities. Some of these clubs show movies or have short trips to the mountains, the (beach) or the museums. Most of these clubs use a lot of high school and university students as volunteers they are young enough to remember the problems of younger boys and girls more (easy).

    Volunteers believe that  happiest people in the world are those who help to bring happiness to others.
