    We asked two teenagers from the USA about what they think of the Internet. Here are their answers.

    In 1969, humans landed on the moon for the first time. Now, many other countries want to go there as well. Why?

    The moon has a lot of minerals (矿物质) and other useful things. We want to find out if we can use them. The moon is our closest neighbor in space. We can use it as a rest station. Then, we can learn more about other planets far away in space.

    The moon is 3,474 kilometers in diameter (直径). It is about one-fourth the size of Earth. If Earth is the size of a basketball, the moon is the size of a tennis ball.

    The moon has much less gravity than Earth. If you can jump 1.5 meters on Earth, you can jump 9 meters on the moon.

    The moon is very quiet. There is no sound there. There are a lot of grey rocks on it. The moon's sky is always black.

    Our moon is about 384,400 kilometers away from Earth. The total length of the Great Wall is about 21,200 kilometers. We would have to put about ____ Great Walls end to end to reach the moon!

    As a new immigrant (移民) in Australia, I sometimes find it hard to get into the local culture. After reading the book Unpolished Gem (《未经雕琢的宝石》) by Australian writer Alice Pung, I found I am not alone. Pung had the same story as me.

The story is set in Melbourne. Pung's parents are from Cambodia. They have lived in Australia for years. But Pung still has difficulties understanding both cultures.

One is the white Australian culture she lives in. The other is her family's traditional Asian values (价值观). For example, her parents tell her, "You are going to be a lawyer and marry a doctor". This makes Pung want to run away from her life. However, as she argues with her white boyfriend, she knows that traditional Asian values are part of her life. In the end, she happily accepts her own cultural background (背景).

    Since Pung lived in her home country for 18 years, it wasn't easy for her to understand Australian culture. I have found that I feel the same way sometimes. In Asian culture, we put a lot of importance on our studies and getting into a good college. But it seems like Western kids are more carefree.

    I liked this book because it really shows what it's like to live as an immigrant. I highly recommend (推荐) it to anyone who wants to know what it's like to be an immigrant.

    I learned a lesson in "heart" from my little 10-year-old daughter, Sarah, who was born with a muscle(肌肉)missing in her foot and has to wear a brace（支撑架） all the time. That's why she has problems running freely or even walking quickly.

    On a beautiful spring day, at 4:00pm, she came home and told me that she joined in "field day". On that day, students usually have lots of races, games, matches and competitions. They join in the "field day" and win prizes.

    Because of her brace, my mind raced, "She must be very upset. What should I say to make her cheer up?" So I tried to think of words of encouragement for my poor Sarah, things I could say to her about not letting this get her down—things I have heard many famous coaches tell the players when they were faced with defeat(失败), but before I could say a word out, she looked up and said happily, "Daddy, I won two of the races."

    I couldn't believe it! Then Sarah said, "I had an advantage（优势）."

    Ahha. I knew it. She must have been given a head start……some kind of physical（身体上的） advantage. I thought in my mind. But again, before I could say anything, she said, "Daddy, I didn't get a head start…My advantage was I had to try harder!"   

    Do you believe that a woman can have 384 babies? Saalumarada Thimmakka is such a great woman.

    Saalumarada Thimmakka is an Indian woman who is （著名的）for her work in planting and taking care of 384 banyan trees in the countryside. She is great not because she is （已经）over 100 years old but because she has planted so many trees.

    When she was young, she had no money to go to school. She could not read or write. At the age of 20, she married to a farmer. （但是）, they couldn't have children. One day she thought up an idea of planting trees and looking after them just like her （自己的）children. She （希望）to live in peace with the nature and then started her lifetime's work.

    At the （开始）, it's difficult for them to plant trees. First, they had no （经验） in planting trees. Also, they had to carry water from a place far away to water the small trees and they had to keep small trees from bad weather and animals （直到）they grew well. They worked day and night to grow as many trees as （可能）.

    Unluckily, her husband （死）in 1990, but Saalumarada Thimmakka continued her work. Because of her, the 384 banyan trees have grown into a forest. Now she is no longer alone because the trees are just like her babies.

    Technology（科技）makes our life easier and better than before. Many think it is great. For most people, technology means you can do (much) in less time and have fun while doing it. Here's one example. People ( make) letters with smoke from planes. People can see the letters from the streets, buildings and places far the sky. It's called skywriting. It began in England. In 1922, the (one) words written in the sky over America were "Hello USA". That year skywriting started to be used for advertising. Then it kept popular for a long time. It's difficult (put) a message into the sky. The pilot must count numbers to know when to turn the smoke on and off. wind moves the letters, the pilot should watch their shadows on the ground or their shapes in the sky.     At school：

    When students around you begin to push, try to hold onto something, or stay in a safer corner.

    On your way home or to school：

    Wait for the green traffic light. Wear clothes in bright colors, so the drivers can see you easily.

    ：

    Stay calm and leave quickly. To keep clear of smoke (烟雾),use a piece of wet cloth to cover your mouth and nose.

    For riding on the escalator（自动扶梯）：

    You should hold onto handrails（扶手） and stand on the right side of the escalator, because right arms are stronger.
