    Today I arrived at my friend Worawut's house outside of Bangkok for the holidays. His family was doing a spring cleaning of their pretty wooden house in preparation for the spring festival of Songkran. They put their hands together to greet me with a traditional gesture called the wai. Worawut translated their words for me.

13 April

    The women cooked Thai food for the next day's ceremonies(仪式). That smelled wonderful! Under the bright sun, we men went to the river and brought lots of sand to the village war(寺庙). The wat was a beautiful Buddhist building where the monks (和尚) lived. We left the sand near the wat. Worawut said I'd soon find out why.

14 April

    We all dressed up and went to the village wat. The monks waited with their bowls at a long table. We filled their bowls with rice and all kinds of delicious food. Everyone smiled and music played as the monks ate. After that, we attended the bathing ceremony. We poured water over stone Buddhas. Young people poured some sweet smelling water into the hands of older people to show respect for them. Outside, everyone used the sand we had brought to make sand pagodas (佛塔). We put flowers, flags, and stones on ours. It was beautiful!

15 April

    Today was the last day of me festival, and Worawut told me to get ready for some water throwing. We had a great time. Everyone in the village was throwing water. On such a hot day, the water felt really good. I can't wait to come back next year!

    Years ago I went to a festival of short films. There were competitions and prizes for the best short films. It was a night of animated films (动画片) from 9 p. m. on Saturday to 6 a. m. on Sunday. Every audience (观众) could get a free breakfast with their tickets on Sunday morning.

    There were three parts running through the night. Each part had several animated films and music videos. Some films were so good that the audience couldn't take their eyes off the screen even for a minute.

    I was surprised when I found even the night staff (全体职员) were very happy and friendly. You could tell that all the people there enjoyed themselves. Once inside the theatre, it was difficult to get a seat because you had to climb over other seats. Some audience threw around paper planes to show their happiness.

    By the third part of the night you could tell that everyone was getting tired. People were drinking coffee during the break. I tried to stay up until the end. I think it was a really wonderful experience.

    Tea culture is varied in different countries by the way tea is made and drunk, and by the places for tea drinking. How to make tea may be different. According to the ways of making tea, tea is classified (分类) into white tea, green tea, black tea, etc. And how to prepare tea may be different, too. In Tibet, tea is commonly boiled (煮) with salt and butter. People may drink tea at home or in public, for example, at tea houses.

    As part of culture, tea has a relationship with history, health, education, and communication. It is commonly used at social activities. For example, afternoon tea is a British custom. Families or friends can communicate with each other while having afternoon tea.

    Tea has remained a way of daily life in China and drinking tea has a lot of advantages. It makes people less tired, clears heat in the human body and helps people lose weight.

    Chinese people are good at using tea to make other things delicious. Tea, originally (最初) served as a medicine in ancient times, is now not just a kind of drink, but also excellent seasoning (调味品). Here are two delicious dishes made with tea:

    Tea Eggs: You can find them cooked and sold in street markets in almost every city in China.

    Dragon Well Tea Shrimp(龙井虾仁): It's one of the most well-known dishes in Hangzhou.

    Before you drink tea, please check the following tips:

    Drank hot tea.

    The best time to drink is in between meals. It is bad for your stomach if you drink tea just before meals, during meals or soon after meals.

    Do not drink too much strong tea.

    The Silk Road is the name of different roads that long ago connected Europe, Africa and Asia. People reached these different places along these roads. Scientists believe people began to travel the Silk Road about 3,000 years ago. By the time the Chinese silk trade became important in the world, the Silk Road covered almost 6,500 kilometres. It spread from Rome to China, which is from the West to the Far East.

    Traders travelling along the Silk Road carried silk, of course. They also carried and traded spices(香料), cloth, valuable stones and gold.

    There is a famous old story along the old road. It is said that Roman soldiers travelled through central Asia. They started to live somewhere near the ancient Chinese village of Liqian. Some of these Romans married local Chinese women and the story of blue-eyed villages of China was started.

    During its busiest period，the Silk Road allowed people from many different cultures and countries to meet each other and mix. The Silk Road allowed the sharing of valuable goods and new ideas. These included people and trading goods from the Mediterranean, Persian, Magyar, Armenian, Bactrian, Indian and Chinese areas. All these peoples travelled the Silk Road, and they shared goods, stories, languages, and cultures.

    In modern times, the old Silk Road routes (路线) are still used, but now they are crossed by trains instead of camels and horses. There is even a Silk Route Museum in Jiuquan in China. It has over 35,000 objects from all along me Silk Road. In this way, China protects the history of many countries and peoples.
