Jerry was travelling through a desert. One day he came across a spring (小溪) of clear 1.     Every Christmas, my kids and I visit my parents who live nearly 400 miles away from us. It is always a tiring 9-to-10-hour drive, but that's the only time my parents get to see their grandchildren.

    This year I was the driver, my wife Adriana was in the passenger seat, and my three kids were all in the back seat and our dog Susie was by their feet. We travelled by night time to avoid the heavy holiday traffic. We left the house at about 9:00 in the evening. By around one o' clock, my three kids and Adriana were all fast asleep, including Susie who was lying on their legs. I was also very sleepy by that time, so I closed my eyes for a very short moment. What I didn't know was that I was slowly turning towards the other road and that a truck was coming very quickly towards us. I had fallen asleep at the wheel (开车) when Susie woke me up by jumping onto my leg. When I opened my eyes, I saw the bright headlights of the truck heading towards our car. I quickly turned the car back to our road. I had just missed hitting the truck and avoided a very serious accident.

    I looked around, and they were all still fest asleep. I drove the rest of the distance very carefully. As soon as we got there, I told them what Susie had done and we were very proud of our dog. She still gets special treatment (对待) up to this day.

    I am Wilson. My sister and I spent our summer holidays with our uncle this year. He is a geologist (地质学家) and loves to collect stones.

One day, he bought us two backpacks and asked us to go to the mountain with him. We walked the whole day. Every now and then he put stones in our backpacks. To our surprise, he also took some stones out from them. But we thought he had just found better stones.

    When we returned to the house, we were very tired. The backpacks were so heavy that we felt great relief (轻松) when we took them off. Yet our uncle's backpack was half empty.

    “Why did you give us so many stones?” we asked.

    “I didn't. You did,” he said. “You didn't know it, but I gave you a little attitude test today. I listened to every word you said. Whenever you were complaining, I added a stone to your backpacks. Whenever you talked about something with positive thinking, I took out a stone. And now look at your backpacks.”

    Our backpacks were full of stones.

   “Your negative thoughts are just like stones. You carry them in your mind just like those stones in your backpacks. The more negative thoughts you have, the heavier your mind will be,” said our uncle.

    With great love, our uncle taught us one of the most important lessons in life — the power of the attitude.

    On April 2, 1805, Hans Christian Andersen was born in a one-bedroom house in Odense, Denmark. His father was a shoemaker and his mother was a laundrywoman (洗衣女工). When he was 11, his father died. He had to leave school and began to work in a factory. When he was 17, he met a director. With the director's help, Andersen went back to school. He studied with children who were six years younger than him. He began writing at that time.

    Andersen's first book of fairy tales came out in 1835. The Princess on the Pea and The Tinderbox were included in it. His first book was a big success. From then on, he wrote almost a book every year. In his lifetime, he wrote about 168 fairy tales and his stories have been translated into about 150 languages. No matter how old we are, we are probably familiar with The Emperor's New Clothes, The little Match Girl and many other fairy tales of Andersen.

    Andersen always wanted to tell people not to judge (判断) people by their appearances. In 77ie Ugly Duckling, the character everyone makes fun of has inner (内在的) beauty.

    Andersen was also a gifted artist. He made thousands of paper cuttings of swans (天鹅), clowns and angels. These can be seen in the book The Amazing Paper Cuttings of Hans Christian Andersen.

    Because of his wonderful fairy tales, Andersen became known as the greatest writer in Denmark and one of the most beloved children's writers in the world. On April 2, people celebrate International Children's Book Day. That's because April 2 was Andersen's birthday.

    Many students want to give gifts to their teachers, and they often wonder what gifts to give to their teachers. After almost two decades as a teacher, here are some thoughts.

    First, not giving your teacher anything is perfectly fine. Teachers do not expect to receive a gift and are often surprised when they receive a gift. Believe it or not, the gift that a teacher receives (or does not receive) has no influence on his or her opinion of the child. No teacher will ever remember which child arrived at school with a gift and which did not. Trust me. In fact, many schools do not allow teachers to accept gifts from parents, so offering a gift can place a teacher in a difficult situation. As a result, no gift is sometimes just easier for a teacher.

    But if you're going to give your teacher a gift, here are a few suggestions:

    The best gift I ever received from students was given to me when my daughter was born. Each student in my class bought his or her favorite childhood book and signed the inside cover with a message to Clara. These books were then put into a library and gathered to me after Clara's birth. The books in that library are still some of Clara's favorites today, and we always take a moment to read the messages.

    Two things to take away from this: Books make excellent gifts. Gifts for a teacher's children make excellent gifts.

    But when it comes to gifts, I believe that the best gift that you can give a teacher is simply a note expressing your appreciation for all that he or she has done for you. I have letters from students that I appreciate (感激) as much as any other object in my life. I read these letters after difficult days in the classroom. They lift my spirits beyond measure.

As we all know, pressure (be) a serious topic in today's world. After (come) into Junior Three, you have to face many of the coming exams. You fix all your attention  studies, and it makes you feel stressed find it

difficult to get on well with your classmates. Besides, your parents hope that you can go to a top school, and that also (add) your stress.

Here I have some (suggestion) for you to reduce stress. First, try to build up confidence, and never give up or lose heart no matter what happens. Second, you should find out your own learning methods and ask for help from          your teachers and classmates when you have difficulties and stress.
