  The old man then asked the banker to weigh the piece of tin. It weighed 5 kilos.

  "I am not robbing you, "said the old man. "You are trying to rob me! The piece of silver I gave you 10 weighed 4 kilos!"

    People have travelled around the world in quite small boats. It is not an easy thing to do. Sometimes the weather gets bad, and that can be the end of everyone in the boat. Accidents can happen easily and quickly.

    One family once had an accident because of some big fish. The fish swam under their boat and bit holes in it. Sea water came in and the boat soon sank. However, these people had another small boat-a lifeboat, and they all got into it. They lived and hoped for many days. At last a ship found them.

    How do sailors(海员) live in a very small lifeboat for a few weeks or even a few months? They must be strong in every way. They must have hope and they want to live. They cannot drink sea water. If they drink a lot of sea water, they will soon die. They can drink rainwater. They must catch rainwater. They must also catch fish and birds for food. A lifeboat does not carry a cooker, so they cannot cook their food. Raw meat is not very nice, but there is no other choice in a lifeboat!

    Do you often help the people who are in need?

    One day, two boys were walking along the road to school when they saw an old woman carrying a large basket of pears. The old woman looked very tired. They went up and said, "Are you going to town? If you are, we'll help you carry your basket. ''

    "Thank you," said the woman. "That's very kind of you. ''Then she told them that she was going to the market to sell the pears. So the boys decided to lift the basket together. They walked slowly with the heavy basket, but they were happy.

  The other day, I saw a little girl pick up a piece of banana peel(香蕉皮). She threw it into the dustbin(垃圾箱). "I hope nobody would throw that in the street," she said. "Someone may slip(滑倒) and fall."

    Perhaps some people may say that these are not great things. That's right. But almost all great things are made up of such small things. We shouldn't wait for the time to do great things. We should begin with these things that are full of love.
