     I am a taxi driver. One Monday morning, I had stopped at New York Hospital when I found a well-dressed man coming over. He was waving to me. I waited until he jumped into the cab. “La Guardia Airport, please,” he said.

     As always, I wondered about my passenger. “What do you do?” “I am working at the hospital.” For some unknown reason, I decided to ask for his help.

“Could I ask a favor of you?” He didn't answer. “I have a son, 16. He's doing well in school. He wants a job this summer. Is there any possibility that you might get him a summer job?” After a minute, he said, “The medical students have a research project. Maybe he could fit in. Have him send me his school records.” He searched his pocket and handed me a card.

     That evening, I pulled the card from my pocket. “Robbie,” I said proudly, “This could be a summer job for you. Send him your school records.” He read it out loud, “Fred Plum, New York Hospital.” “Is this a joke?” he said in doubt. After I shouted and threatened (恐吓) to cut off his pocket-money, Robbie promised to send off his grades the next morning.

Two weeks later, when I arrived home, my son handed me a letter from Plum. He was to phone Plum's secretary for an interview.

     Robbie got the job. The white coat he wore made him feel more important than he really was. As high school graduation neared, Plum was kind enough to write letters of recommendation (推荐) for universities. At last, Robbie was admitted to New York Medical College.

It never happened to me that a stranger should change my son's future.

Everyone has probably seen a movie or two about robots going against man. As a kid it was interesting, but not a reality. But today, when we look at how far scientists have come, it's not just a funny thought but a real possibility.

Honda has already created a robot with eyes, legs, arms and hands and it can act just like a person. There is no end to what a robot could do in the future. Just think what we can do in twenty to thirty years. We're dealing with almost an entire new species (种类) of human-like robots that could be cleverer than us. Can we continue to use these robots in a way that they serve us, or will they become so wise that they will want independence (独立)?

     I am really not sure just how far scientists are going to perfect robots. But once this type of robot is made, they will be able to think, make decisions, sense the movement of others and decide what it wants to do.

     A new invention has led to the introduction of a female robot, which was introduced at an entertainment show in Vegas. The robot called Roxy sells for between seven and ten thousand dollars. It is built to accompany (陪伴) females. This female (女性的) robot companion is called true companion and you can find such robots on the Internet. Robots used to have limited uses, but now they are almost in every field. This has opened the door to many dangerous possibilities in the future.

     Parties and social gathering no longer excite us the same way they once did. This is because of mobile-phone.

At parties, more people are on their phones than on their drinks. According to a recent International Data Corporation Study, over half of all Americans have a smartphone and reach for it as soon as they wake up, keeping it in hand all day. In addition, too many people in society are using smartphones while driving and as a result, they get into danger. 34 percent of teenagers admit sending messages while driving. People's addiction (沉溺) to their smartphones is unbelievably becoming more important than the lives of themselves and others.

     Just as drivers ignore the importance of focusing (集中注意力) while on the road, many people also fail to recognize the importance of human communication. When with their friends, some people aimlessly check or send messages in front of a friend, which sends a message to that friend: the person I am texting is more important than you. In addition, depending on our smartphones to make friends does not give us the same advantage as being able to make new friendships in the real world. Face-to-face conversations will give us much stronger communication skills in the long run.

As many people risk their lives and the lives of people around them just to send a message or mindlessly check their messages, smartphones are in many ways more dangerous to people. The quality of this technology is preventing societal achievements and weakening the value of communication. Not only is the smartphone affecting our desire to communicate face to face, but it is also lowering society's ability to communicate.

If you need a guy to help you with something, there are ways that will help you.

Find the right person to ask for help.

. For example, if you need someone to look after your house while you are away for a month, don't select a person who has a wife and kids and can't possibly leave them to help you.

Even if it's a small favor, try to find a place that has some privacy (私密性). This is especially important if you're asking for help that you don't want someone else to hear, such as borrowing money from him.

Use special words to set the table so that he knows you're in need.

 Or words such as “I really need your help” are OK. These words give him the chance to understand that he can be of help.

Ask for help in a clear way that expresses what you need, and the reason why you need it.

For example, if you're asking him to take you to the airport, tell him when you need him to arrive. If you're borrowing money from him, say the amount and the reason why you need the money.

Ask for help in such a way that you give him the chance to refuse.

 If you don't give him that choice, he may feel as if it's something he has to do instead of something he wants to do.

E. You can say, “I'm really in trouble. Can you help me?”

    Cheating happens a lot in our city. It can be hard to know who is really in 1 and who is trying to take advantage of other people's   2.

     How time flies! I will be a senior high school student this term. I am very excited and nervous. I can meet many new (friend) in senior high school as well. I think they, (I) new friends, will be friendly and kind-hearted. I believe I will get along well all of my new classmates. I feel nervous because I heard that it is difficult(study) in senior high school. I think I will meet many problems. But it's nothing serious, because I know if I work hard, I will be successful at last.
